Side couples are an important aspect to the longevity of any romance manga. Side characters expand the number of tools and storylines the writer has access to and allow breathing room.

For a romance manga to grow past its intial premise it has to have somewhere to grow.

Example: MagiRevo having the whole
vampire
plot required not Anise or Euphie but a side character.
Plus it gives the writer more tools to work with so they're less likely to overly depend on the typical tropes to extend the series. Relationships in those series tend not to be as slow burn, for example. There also tends to be less "sudden drama rivals," or the other usual "I'm stuck, what do I do to extend this, oh this is a good idea!" strategies.

Instead you're story naturally develops multiple different couples, each at different points of their relationship and each with different dynamics. Every chapter then has something it can naturally cover and even when one couple is struggling others are not--so the story can balance itself out. Korean and Chinese stories are really good with this. Japanese manga, not as much. Yuri is My Job does it, and so does Whisper Me a Love Song. Both of those do very well.

Yuri is my job ? forget about side couple, i don't even read that for the main couple :pepehmm:

also, why everyone comment like "why people don't want side couple" while i don't see any "don't want side couple" comment at all ?
I'm still waiting for any progress with the main couple, def a slowburn

School Zone Girls is fantastic at this as it's  all over the spectrum.

I'm also very fond of ILTV being able to tell multiple transgender storylines and grows way way past it's intial premise.

I mean the main couple is resolved and honestly the side couple is a lot less frustrating than the main development wise (which both are fine but hey after the first bumpy ride you want a smooth one next).
I didn't think things were frustrating with their development at all but that depends on one's tastes.

But see their issues being "resolved" and moving on is my issue with a lot of romance-focused manga. Once they get the main couple together, they either end the manga or just focus elsewhere. I wanna see their relationship progress and see them together doing stuff stupid shit like we saw in this chapter. Again I don't mind seeing the side couples. They are super important to stories and keeps things fresh! I'm down with them as long as we continue seeing the couple (main couple) that got me into the manga being the focus.

The author did a poll on their social media about whether to continue focusing on Yanling/Pingping and people on there said they weren’t interested. So the author shifted the Yanling/Pingping storyline into later volumes.

Disappointing that people didn’t want to see more of the side couple, I love them
Isnt that manga a fucking mess?
Was going to read it until someone spoilered me the whole subplot with a certain girl almost getting raped by another. I don't like that kind of stuff

Author san, what the fck are you doing , going off what your readers think. Readers are morons :wooow: and writing stories shouldn't be democratic.

Write your story on what what you want to write. It's your story

How anyone could not be the least but suspicious of their relationship is beyond my understanding, it's so potent at this point their miles well be a nuke in my basement

12 drawing a second? Quite believable actually, In terms of moving at inhumane speeds

Wait why even do this event? Does anyone here actually do thier j*b?

Well if that's her reaction to her having the unemployment, I fear her read when she learns her daughter is G A Y

Yeah I get diverting focus id just like some post get together drama, feels like it always goes straight to fluff when the yuri gets together and I always feels were missing prime story potential, oh well i still got a ton of chapters to get through and fluff is nice, side ship Yuri is nice, let's see where this goes

Have a nice day, god it's like I'm back in black snow and rose or whatever it was called ew, I'll keep the next comment shorter... Probably
