Ranks are for the stronger fighters in high school. That may be why they weren’t up before, because it’s only a few weeks (perhaps even days), that Dan-I and the gang have been in high school. There are thousands of students in Korean, right? Rankers are people who are good at fighting. High rankers are those who are amazing at fighting. I’m not sure what the cut off is, but those above 100 (1-100) are definitely considered high ranking and are amazing at fighting. Remember that Eunhyung is an ML and super duper overpowered, don’t let him throw off your perception
High rankers are looked up to because they’re at the top of the rankings and super strong. They’re role models. That’s well they should set an example ([The higher the rank, the better example you should show, right?). If the top ranking break the rules, then obv the lower ranking will take that to mean they can as well.
Now here’s a breakdown for the timeline.
timeline. top is beginning of order. 1 = day of accident, 2 = day after accident aka day of the fight
- hwang siwoo confesses to yeoryeong and gets rejected. Siwoo promises revenge
1. Siwoo + his gang fight Eunhyung and Dan-i falls onto street. The accident happens
1. The 4 heavenly kings + yeoryeong plot revenge. first time ranks are mentioned.
1.ju-in contacts his cousin, rank 102 (originally higher but he's too carefree or smth so it dropped).
1. cousin contacts other high ranks and inform that a ranker (hwang siwoo) fought a regular student (which they dont allow)
1. the rankers agreed that hwang siwoo should be punished and someone (idk if its ju-in or cousin) arranges a fight as an opportunity for siwoo to be punished.
2. siwoo is at an internet cafe (i think). he isn't at the fight while his subdorinates are. someone calls and tells him that one guy is beating them all. siwoo doesn't believe him and keeps playing.
2. anticipating that siwoo might not show up, the backup plan of 4 kings + Y begins. Y calls Siwoo and asks him to come to the location, heavily implying that she will accept his confession now.
2. Siwoo shows up, but instead of Y greeting him, it's E. E politely forces Siwoo to follow him
2. meanwhile, rank 72 has recently come back from a trip or something. Ju-in shows up and tells rank 72 that siwoo is after rank 72's spot. Rank 72 is pissed and goes after siwoo
2. Siwoo and E show up at the scene. Cousin is there, with all of Siwoo's members beaten.
2. Eunhyung tells Siwoo to show him who pushed Dan-I. Siwoo is too surprised to answer (shocked because theyre doing all this for Dan-I), and that's when rank 72 arrives.
2. Rank 72 and Eunhyung meet. Rank 72 is the guy who hit on Y on the beach, who Dan-I cried over because he had a normal name, and who Eunhyung trashed
2. E challenges rank 72 for the rank
2. meanwhile, we see that ji-ho is escorting dan-i home. his job, presumably, is to make sure dan-i doesn't get involved and dosn't find out about the fight. he does it decently well
2. at an unknown location, the rankers the cousin had called on the day of the accident are together. the cousin isnt with them, because he's busy beating people up, and theyre annoyed cause he's not there.
2. Y enters the scene. She beautifully cries and tells them about what happened on the day of the accident. she successfully gains their sympathy
2. Back to scene. E challenges rank 72 for rank and wins
2. E again asks Siwoo to point out who pushed Dan-I. He does it this time.
2. E tells the person who pushed Dan-I (hereon referred to as A) that if A punches E, A will be forgiven
2. A punches E and E is “beaten.” A is now rank 72.
2. The rankers Y gained the sympathy of appears at this point, and E points them to A telling them that A is rank 72.
2. Because A is rank 72, the rankers decide not to go easy on A and it’s pretty obvious that A is utterly screwed.
This plan seems elaborate and unnecessary but it
1. Lets them find out who the person who pushed Dan-I was and gives more punishment to A than the 4 kings presumably could and
2. Ensures that rankers are much much less likely to start fights with normal students, as this incident shows that the higher-up rankers are enforcing that rule.Technically, the whole thing started cause Siwoo broke the rule of rankers not being allowed to mess with regular students.
3. Assuming this incidents gets spread (which it probably will considering it involves multiple high rankers), Siwoo and his gang, including the guy who pushed Dan-I, will probably become laughing stocks and shunned everywhere
Of course there might be and there probably are other reasons, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I get the whole ranks thing but also I think it’s a bit too complex and boring lol.... dragged on for sooo many chapters

I don't really get this rank thing, its overly dramatic but it all make sense I guess since its a web novel.
