@Chet31 Yeah, that's kind of how I'm feeling. Like, how is there any actual difference between the "villainous" girl he escaped from and the MC he escaped to? Just a different self-indulgent brat. It could make a decent hentai if you're into that
She's supposed to be this great conqueror. You don't become a great conqueror just with attitude and keeping a pet wolf. I was thinking she'd at least be considering him as a political tool--as the last surviving royalty of a conquered khanate that she might want to conquer in turn, he could be valuable. But she just wants to dress him up in girly clothes? Whatever.

@Chet31 @Purplelibraryguy What exactly did you think would happen you first started this series? It was in the summary going in, minus this latest modification. HE needs the one to convince her of his value at this point. And for purple, just because you haven't seen her in action doesn't mean she can't back it up, she took this guy with little fuss despite the Khaganate being this big new power. Both of you need to calm and actually see what happens rather then just leap from one conclusion to another. It's all about making progress and the journey to get there, not instant gratification and just jumping straight to the endgame all the time.

@KrimzonHawka Not jumping to conclusions at all, I just don't want to read 2 chapters of nothing. Author could have done these 2 chapters in the span of 3 panels but decided to make it like this, which is why I called this garbage. I want things to move forward, not 2 steps forward, 3 steps back.

@Purplelibraryguy Monarchs adding people as concubines is about as realistic as it gets. Again, who knows if he has any value outside of his looks at this point. Why invest resources and incur unnecessary risks into a guy simply satiate her needs? That means time, money, and lives if you hadn't realized. So is it reasonable for any ruler of an entire nation to do all that for him simply because he tickles her fancy? The Khaganate already gave him to her as a courteousy. And the Khagnate is not her declared enemy at this point, even if they are rivals. So why should she do so much on his behalf at this point in the relationship? It's his perogative to convince her he's more then her bed warmer at this point in times.

Based on the summary it was pretty clear he had to be the one to take the initiative in the relationship to get what he wanted. We'll see if he succeeds now.

@Krimzonhawka Monarchs don't often add crowned heads as concubines unless it's someone who's actually their enemy. What do you mean, who knows if he has any value? His value (at this point) has nothing to do with his personal characteristics. It's political. He can be used to gain the allegiance of people in a piece of territory, or to threaten that territory's current overlords. If she doesn't know whether that has value, she should. As to making enemies, she's already done that by taking him even if she fails to use him.
But what makes it particularly annoying for me is I'll admit partly a matter of style. If she's going to self-indulgently ignore the political ramifications and make him a concubine, does it all have to be quite so . . . crass and disorganized? Does it have to be played like her main objective isn't even sexual satisfaction, but the petty enjoyment of humiliation? Really, as I say it feels like a hentai. And it makes her seem like a petty-ass gang leader who can't feel strong unless she's making someone else weak, not like a powerful queen, however ruthless. I wasn't expecting to like her at this point, but I was hoping for someone I could have a smidge of respect for. But this? What's being presented isn't a great queen, it's a wilful insecure schoolyard bully.

@Purplelibraryguy She didn't take him from them, she formally asked and was granted him by the Khanate as a concession. People being granted gifts in concubines happened all the time in real life history (ask the Chinese Emperors). They're not enemies yet at this point, potential rivals maybe but the Khanate is just newly arrived on the scene as a major power. She hasn't made them her enemy yet. And plenty of exiled heads of state turned out to be completely useless or a major headache for their host countries, with many of them turning them back over to their original nation or kicking them out of their own country to another one. The Jacobite kings with France, the Kaiser for the Netherlands after WWI etc. The former was eventually dumped and the latter never received any support for his return to Germany no matter how much he hoped he could.
There is value in trying to break someone of their will outside of enjoying their humiliation, obedience being the first and foremost thing you want to instill in a concubine as someone that close to your person. The clothes/perfume seemed to come from the attendant, which she didn't care for I might remind, but her speech to him is about what I expect from anyone addressing a slave who hasn't yet won their masters favor, and reinforcing their position in your manners to them makes them easier to control. Otherwise he's being treated fairly well in terms of his care and education so far. While we can hope for something better, honestly none of this should come off as too surprising. She's not been displayed as a nice person at any point thus far. Quite frankly it's still all pretty tame, and we're looking at this not from her perspective but of his as a prisoner working from nothing and at the complete whim of someone else. We'll see what he makes of it.

@Purplelibraryguy Isn't it stated that his kingdom has fallen and his family was wiped out? That's why he really has no political value outside of novelty of having a slave that is a former prince. No governing official would want him unless if it's for emotional value like attraction, but that's not political value. Trying to treat him like a prince when he has nothing sounds more costly and inefficient compared to treating for what he is currently: a token slave (spoil of war).

@Winterspring Kingdoms can be invaded and conquered. But the geography and the people are still there, and the people are often unhappy about being conquered. All through ancient and medieval times, right up to the aftermath of the Russian revolution, heirs to deposed monarchs have been considered extremely dangerous/useful because of their ability, on their own hook or being used by someone, to parlay their "rightful ruler" status into uprisings to seize back the throne. Really, it happened a lot.

I was also taken aback by the repetitive scenes. Though he was saved, nothing has changed for him. It feels a bit dragged but probably will persevere for a few more chapters. (I get that he has no value but I don't think the readers needed a long prologue for when he does become useful to her. I feel that it wouldn't have felt long if we also got a bit more from him. He isn't an interesting character is what I mean.)
