Eh, a lot of people fear dying alone or can't take societal and familial pressure to marry and have kids and so just get hitched to someone. It doesn't usually end well, but people don't always make the smartest decisions.I really hate stories, where the MCs was clearly in love with each other and never actually got over it, but still end up getting eith someone else…
that but also, homophobia would have killed their careers. Given that both of them were still starting out, using their debuts to gain better work and higher fame. A scandal where these two women turn out to be dating would have literally ended both their career. when Ren tells Youji to not even say the words that's what she's getting at. Because if even just the confession got out neither of them would ever find work in the industry again.Personally, I like how the back story goes. Though some might not like the way they choice career over love. However, I think, that's the best decision to make at that time. After all lots of arguments occurs revolving artist/actors specially if the other half was more popular and successful than the other.
This not to say of course that Ren wasn't also having trouble adjusting to how meteoric Youji's rise was and how she'd gone from being the light to the one chasing it. But if Ren's then inability to adjust to looking up to Youji was the reason she wanted to turn the confession down
Feel like it's more inadequacy, feeling as though she can't measure up and bear her weight. Not wanting to be a burden. Don't think it was born out of selfishness. It's not an uncommon idea in these stories. In my opinion, the main reason Ren turned her own is most definitely her inability to cope with the fact that Youji was more popular than her. That's why I can't support her decision. It comes across as self-interested, at least in part.
