Looks like the author reworked his original idea for the ending into the plot line of this story arc. Man, am I glad that the manga didn't end like this...

Edit: I see I am getting a lot of confused reactions. The author said on Twitter/x that his original plan for the story was for the MC to realize that his spider GF was actually a figment of his imagination. Then the story ends with her disappearing and him going about his life. Then the series got extremely popular, and the author realized that the ending sucked, and decided to keep going with introducing more yokai creatures.
