Literally that. I'd go even further and say that most of nowaday mangas have shitty endings with dozens of unresolved plots, that were thrown like a random spices to chilli pot by some kid who don't know how to cook and is thinking, that more = better, and then the heat was cut down and at the end a promising dish became a hot pile of inedible garbage.
I'm not huge fan of a manhwa format, but really, at this point... I don't think there is any reason to try looking for some promising titles made by Japanese, when I know how it will end 90% of the time.
I really hate to break it for you, but most, absolute most of romance, sorry, romcom (because true proper romance manga are exceedingly rare) have always been like this.
You can go as far back as
Maison Ikkoku, an 80s classic that serves as the genre foundation, and it's still not 'good.'
I know this will sound questionable, but if you want actual deep true romance you need to go the visual novel route.
Unlike manga, many, many visual novels feature profound, emotional, believable romantic stories. They work for many reasons, but the main one is the sheer amount of time you spend with the characters. Many visual novels take 50, even 100 hours to read, and most of the time, the dialogue between characters is pure.
By the big ending, you both know the characters well and are invested deeply into their story.
I might be too biased, but no medium could even scratch the surface of emotional effect and satisfaction that VNs provide.
It is common for even a decent title to affect you deeply, but most manga are just meh, read and forget.
White Album 2 by itself is so powerful it topples, hard, even the best romance manga I've seen, maybe even combined.
Cheers.
