WELCOME BACK MYTHER NATION
i missed and love you all deeply. let's all start dying by yatsuda teki's hands again 🫂
now let's dig in
ah my old beloved that i will always reiterate again and again endlessly until the end of time for yatsuda teki (and mochizuki jun ahem ahem)'s sake. the theme of vanitas, of pointlessness, emptiness, futility, to the utmost degree. the idea that life truly has no meaning from birth to death and beyond. kano being called out at point-blank with no mercy that his true motivation is protecting his own "purpose of existence" as the man who created myther in the first place. him putting his life's work into this to combat the way he was born, artificially in an experiment by the nation to create a type of humanity that surpasses all others. forget "the crystallization of humanity's karma," it is the world of myther's very own tower of babel. it is the progenitor of our hubris as it takes form in this story. and kano's life is the consequence of that. and kano is forced to hear, the way illegal myther is taking over the country's underbelly is rapidly undoing every effort kano has made to give his life meaning. the one whose namesake is this very idea and theme is moving as they speak, playing the chessboard to guarantee that kano must meet the man and confront face-to-face the personification of his doom and end. vanitas. it's all already in vain. there is no purpose for him to find.
speaking of a waste of effort and putting your life into the hopes of something forever out of reach! laughs i'm so fucking scared guys. as if everything before wasn't bad enough, yaichi confessing that he genuinely truly loves sataki and wants to hope for a future with her is the screaming death flag of all TIME. yatsuda teki wants me DEAD and is LAUGHING as they're nonstop teasing with these omens for yaichi's endeavors ending also pointlessly, also in vain. fuck even sataki is damned as well now. tragically, devatstatingly, i'm no longer confident she's going to survive even longer than yaichi does. that one page's final panel of nothing but white, a fully negative space as an entire panel, cut only by yaichi's declaration that he, be it as yaichi or suou hodaka, will always be here. ough i am calling it now that eventually it'll be turned into a lie.
now. thank you shirakawa haruno you're greatly appreciated for your contributions and will be missed. so we now have names! jiu and hizuki. vanitas and kyo. they have history, their masters knew each other clearly intimately. pretty stereotypically they were fellow victims and survivors of some human experiment on children that 1000% involved the development of myther.
but more than any of that, what's killing me is one detail. the vanitas painting behind them, all of them, all these children who were part of an experiment for a technology that's explicitly said to have been created and advanced for the sake of the government more easily manipulating people to be soldiers. the vanitas painting that's haunted kyo for all this time is from this--the absolute beginning of everything. that's diabolical, that's insane, that's completely MENTAL. it's one thing for yatsuda teki to hammer this into our heads just to guarantee that it hurts when these characters we love inevitably fail and we've no choice but to watch them spiral towards their own doomed ends. but now i'm being led to believe that in-universe, the people who overlooked these experiments were not only aware of the almost guaranteed chance that this fails, but to the point of putting together this group photo of all their subjects underneath a painting about how life is meaningless?
they didn't just know the experiment would fail. they were mocking the children with it.
i guess now the only question left is who dies first, yaichi, sataki, kano, you, me. maybe all of us together. hold my hand guys let's fucking die together 🫶
