NGL, it feels as if the Strange Grief Guild's core members should be of higher level then they currently are if Cry is lvl 8. iirc Arc is lvl 7, Liz is lvl 6 and Sitry was something like lvl 4 despite the crazy shit she gets up to...

Arc is level 8, he is the true strongest of the capital. Cry is only level 8 because his guild is big, and any contribution made by the members are also counted as the guild leader contribution partially. Sitry is only low because of the penalty.

Liz is a troublemaker so her level being 6 makes sense.

Sitry is level 2 because of all the penalty from the prisoners disappearance incident. The only reason she isn't in the jail right now is because the authorities doesn't have enough evidence for the allegations.

Arc is also an 8 he's the strongest in the capital after all.

Thank you for your suggestion, we have taken this into consideration and reviewed it.

During the translation process, no gender was specified, so we have chosen to consider "I wasn't being sarcastic..." or "You weren't being sarcastic..." instead. Context-wise, either of them works. The first scenario suggests Sitry thought that Cry was being sarcastic and she was also sarcastic in response. And the second one suggests that both of them are not being sarcastic at all.

Because both fit the context of the conversation, we have opted to stay on the current translation since it is the translation that we found most consistent in our translation sources.

Yeah the leveling system doesnt really mean a lot.
Its more of a ranking by the looks of it rather than a real level.

Since Sitry and Liz can do level 7 and 8 treasure vaults with Luke even being just level 2 and level 6.

So basically Krai is level 8 because First Steps and Strange Grief are top notch guild and party altogether with the Yellow Hair Harem guy in tow.

I do think the next part is important: "...but that makes it hurt more". If sitry was simply being sarcastic, then it will just "hurt" him. But because Sitry is actually being genuine, it "hurt more" than she is simply just being sarcastic.

The levels in this manga is weird. If it can be awarded by a merit of the whole town to a single hunter and can be reduced coz of bad behavior, doesn't that means the levels are unreliable metric for strength comparison?
It just means the hunter have more achievement under their belt without considering their actual strength whatsoever. I'm just describing Cry at this point

The details escape me, because I read this part of the novel way too long ago, but I believe at least Sitry's (possibly also Liz's) levels are not as high as they could have been, due to bad behavior. Again, this is a really rusty memory, so I'm not a hundred percent confident in it.

Its basically that Hunter Wise they are about lv8 but due to all their personality “quirks” they all also are a menace to society so their are rank doesnt reflect their true ability (ironically is the same for Krai but on the reverse)
