Ok when I said the guidance he'll provide her was said as a joke, I probably should've expected it. At least she was able to get away from him in lieu of resigning her fate to that creep. Hope the event doesn't actually lower the value of her understanding. Thanks for the translations.

I understand that the teacher is supposed to be creepy, but his characterization is so exaggerated that I can’t take him seriously. Instead of feeling uneasy, I actually find him funny because his mannerisms and appearance are so over the top. Rather than coming across as a real person with subtle, unsettling traits, he feels more like a cartoon character, where everything about him is exaggerated to the point of being comical.

What do you mean? This is genius, subtle writing at work.

lol 'causing problems' doesn't the whole school have a reputation for being a 'problem' school to begin with?

Guess the artist wanted to draw exaggerated faces. tho i'm sure there's some psych horror where it's more nuanced/subtle with the villains

Here are some comments from the Japanese public on the Young Jump app:

いや減るんかい

Wait, it's decreasing?

cddf2QJ.png

Disgusting.

55XkYCt.png

Aneki! It's awesome how something that was down suddenly bursts with energy.

90F766A.png

The guy who was next to him knew about Aneki, right?
I wonder why he's looking like that.

ShU2jgm.png

Decreasing!?!?!?

HcCcXQR.png

I want this teacher to understand as well.

a6kp2lp.png

It's even creepier because the teacher's head is turned 180°.
It actually appears to be closer to 120°.

PcCsuxy.png

In the Twitter version, Aneki was depicted as being turned into a convenient vessel for the playboy. Is it the same here?

Gross.
But I guess there are teachers like this, huh?

AyTR7rC.png

Is it the kind of understanding where you make them realize it’s about family, or something like that?

NOnR6Mf.png

All the characters are creepy.

7ZQb6Zl.png

I can't read it anymore.

FaFcNwP.png

Little brother, help me.

HqOhjRr.png

The characters' way of thinking is even more messed up than I expected, and it feels like this is what they wanted to do after moving to commercial work...

mO62RsQ.png

A gal with low self-esteem...

qv9vAOZ.png

I'd never do this in real life, but it makes me want to see a cheeky gal's losing face.

ujS6wL1.png

You were able to say it after all...!

vFs2IPc.png

Even if we’re allowed to wear casual clothes to school, what’s up with that super short skirt?

Nj6byej.png

The meaning of it decreasing is unclear to me.

Imagine him in the original timeline, Christ. He would've been presented as unironically good or something.

Might be something of a "slingshot effect" in the changes from the previous versions. Like in trying to clear up some of the ambiguities the teacher ends up over corrected in the other direction. My cartoon comparison would be when they do something like an non-animated close up of a face that's hyper detailed beyond the show's standard look.

I see, I see, very interesting. And when will the lynching be? I want to make sure that I mark my calendar so I don’t miss the comeuppance this human trash gets.

JP work is being criticized for having samefaces or faceless bastards so they made sure a face is expressed.

To be fair... this is a comic.

Personally, I'd have liked if he was creepy for nothing-- like, he actually cares about helping his students but he doesn't understand that his movements and facial expressions are so deranged they don't even completely fit the previously established art direction. I think it's fine that he's being played straight, since that means he's being set up as a direct antagonist for the male lead in that he causes her "[understand]ing level" to drop.

That said, the "understanding meter" gimmick in general is starting to grate on me, especially because this story isn't primarily comedic and there's not really a meaning to "one percent of [understand]ing" that completely necessitates the use of the measurement. Conventional conveyance of her "level of [understand]ing" would be at least as effective in indicating her character arc progress to the (Japanese, at least) audience.

So... the percentage thing is probably related to some sort of self-esteem/how much of a bother she thinks she is to her family ig? As Yandere as the lil bro seems to be, at least it seems like he knows what's up.
