That dino wasn't very reactive. The stone throw should really have been enough to majorly startle the animal and make it reconsider being where it was. Instead it just stood there, no snarling to intimidate either, and basically did not react to having a staff pointed at it and the fireball just thrown. Maybe the casting was very fast, but I'd generally expect an animal which hunts to have good reflexes.

As for the second dino, it apparently wasn't any faster than them since it hadn't caught up by the time they got back to the village.

So what was even scary about that? She had the magic to take it down and the children of that clan are able to take one down easily with a thrown spear... Why didn't they just grow and reclaim that area? I assume there is something else there, because otherwise that doesn't make sense.

If you’re Talking about the village, it probably didn’t grow bigger, because there isn’t a lot of people to maintain a bigger area. Also, they don’t truly have any reason to expand.

Her magic may be slow/inaccurate. We saw her use it in ideal circumstances where the dino was distracted AND in a cramped area. Based on how tired she gets from traveling, magic seems to fatigue her, making it dangerous to use costly spells in the wild.

As for why the village is fearful. I agree that there are probably bigger, stronger creatures out there, but lets not underestimate the power of sheer numbers. If a group of 20 or so dinos attacked the village at once, they would not survive. Depends on if the dinos have a pack/herd mentality, but moving the village to avoid the migrations of monster hordes makes sense to me. That town being an example of what happens to people who don't avoid the hordes.
