@Yamibi

She is not a veteran cum dump. so she would definetly miss the mark and suck the arm rest of the chair instead of the dandy handy dick.

You can't suck a dick while being blindfolded unless you are a veteran who exp vietnam war being surrounded by hungry white cockadoodle giant geronimos while ur an brown slave seeking for justice

@monkey123: The fact that Sati reacted so badly to overhearing that part of the conversation suggests that it's actually true (that is to say, she may have heard it from another source that isn't likely to be making it up). Besides, if it was the merchant exaggerating things, you'd expect at least a thought bubble from him that makes that clear; all we got was one that only made it clear that he wanted Sati to overhear the conversation with her superhuman hearing (whether it's to demonstrate her superhuman senses firsthand or to further weaken Masaru's resistance with her heartfelt pleas).

@arimareiji & Misticsan: Please don't take that line out of context. He said that after Kreuk mentioned the story of the old man and his wife who lived happily as a couple, to the point that nobody realized that she was even a slave; in other words, her status as a slave was just on paper, because her "master" treated her as a free woman. And as the conversation elaborated, adventurers tend to have a hard time making any sort of progress in their love life, evidently because they tend to spend a lot of time beinb busy with their work (case in point: Kreuk was eyeing a waitress in town, but since he was so preoccupied with his work as an adventurer, she ended up being taken away by the chef before he could make a move). Masaru then said that the method doesn't matter as long as both Kreuk and the slave-girl are happy (emphasis on "both").

Would it have been better if he also explicitly said that it would've been better if one didn't have to resort to the slave-buying approach? Certainly. But even if he didn't, it's implicit in the flow of the conversation itself, particularly in how Kreuk already tried the normal way and got screwed over by not being able to invest the time to woo the girl he had eyes on.

Isekai's really need to get rid of the slave cliche. Sure some realistic ones could have it, but these fantasy worlds full of wish fulfillment should just stop already.

@srasinister you know that slavery has been abolished late during late gunpowder Era in major countries and even exist now in few countries. Isekai tech is around medieval Era of course slavery is mandatory.

@MarqFJA87 No, even with the context, it's still appaling. I can't blame the locals for being okay with slavery, but Masaru is a boy who has grown up in modern Japan. And while social conformity is a thing, it's still jarring how quicky he is on board with buying and selling human beings as the solution to poor marriage prospects. Moreso when Kreuk is actually having some moral qualms about it, so even in-universe the unfortunate implications aren't totally lost on the world's inhabitants.

However, my grip is not with Masaru's characterization. He's just another example of a trend found in some Isekais: the fetishization of slavery. Your points about the context are proof of that: it's the author's decision to frame the issue around the friend's needs and offer a single positive anecdotal example to explain Masaru's answer, as if that was enough to justify why it's okay. There's no one to say that the method does matter or that it's still wrong even if the girl is happy with it.

Without clarification, I'm fairly sure you've taken my meaning backwards. The problem IS the context.
Unless the term "slave" was grossly misused, that casts a very dark shadow on trying to make it (and the attending issues wrt consent) sympathetic versus repulsive.

@Misticsan You are over-reacting. The world is currently falling apart, I would not be surprised if slaves become a thing (in the "west) again in our time.

Mind you, slaves are still being sold in the middle east and parts of Asia, and supposedly in parts of south America.

I also feel that many people forget our own actual history. Slaves did have some sense of rights in the past. Maybe not America in particular, but it was indeed a thing.

I think the thing that causes the most interest/controversy in these "isekai" stories is a legal slave trade.
If there was another world war, or some sort of major civil war, people would not be put off of the idea of a slave trade.
The only thing holding society together as it is, is a sense of comfort. As soon as that comfort disappears, I would not be surprised if "medieval" customs made a "sudden" comeback.
