I think they're alluding to there being human-hating and human-loving factions of bakeneko that just won't let go of the past. Her father is probably some name in the human-hating faction, hence why he was able to make Tiggy transform, but when Tiggy stopped hating he just became a cat again. Mi doesn't want to be involved in the politics and doesn't want Takase involved either.

So with how the writer has written both those characters so far, theres no reason for her to be against him learning more and he’s got no right to react that way after trying to be so distant for the first half of the story.

Feels like the writer thought of a new plot point right in the middle of the story.

In chapter 209, catgirl is like "it has nothing to do with male MC!", and so in this chapter, male MC left, letting bakeneko solve bakeneko problems. He probably felt hurt about it, but at this point, he did not have neither the strength of mind nor the strength of feelings to force himself in.
Male MC in this story is quite different from MCs from adventure stories, who would totally barge into strangers' problems, and volunteer to solve them with strength and magic. But this was well established at the start of the story - due to him moving around with his parents a lot, he has only superficial connections to others, underdeveloped social skills and gloomy personality.
