The author disappeared about 5-6 years ago and the only info we have is people on Japanese sites have suggested he died since he had a manga in publication when he disappeared. This manga's finished, I just need to get the rest of it translated.

Not really, you can't find anything relating to him after about 2014 as far as I know, the stuff about him possibly dying came from someone who commented on the last chapter about having tried to find out what happened to him and some people on a Japanese yahoo answers type place thought he'd died.
