I'm guessing that she got face blindness after some type of accident because based on how hard she's trying I don't think she "chose" it like the mc.

Gyupig did say that she changed during the time they went to different schools so it must have happened then. The change he felt was probably her not wanting to offend people she knows by saying "I can't recognize you." Though that backfired on her because people can feel the wierd distance she's keeping from most people. It also creates situations like this where she lies and fakes it because she realizes how wierd it looks to others.

I have a theory that the real reason children are gemstones to him is because he's close to not needing the rock filter for them.

The reason he has the rock filter in the first place is because he was afraid of getting hurt by getting too close to them. The mc pointed out how he doesn't really have to worry about that when it comes to kids, so there's no reason for them to have a filter.

Maybe once he gets close enough he'll see other girls as gemstones and eventually see them normally once he's used to them.
