When it comes to be read by lots of people, long series often steal the spotlight from short series and oneshots (because more chapters means more releases, so it draws more attention on MD's main page, I guess).
But quantity isn't quality. There are some very good short series and oneshots on MD, but we don't see them in the shadow of the ever-updating hundreds-of-chapters-long series.
Sorting by rating isn't very relevant to find the almost-unknow series, if only 1 or 2 users (or even 0) have expressed themselves.
Sorting by views don't help much either, since even at 2000 views (for the title page of the series), there are hundreds series with no chapter uploaded, and it's hard to tell them apart from just unknown oneshots without manually clicking the hundreds of results.
That's why, I suggest the following things:
- Displaying on the search results the number of releases of each series (or even better, creating a search option to excludes results with 0 chapters).
- Creating a "random manga" button (either just plain, or with the same tag inclusion/exlusion system as the database search feature).
- Adding on MD's main page a list of 5-10 random mangas, refreshed every 24h (for example the same kind of list as the "featured titles" and "new titles" lists).
- Adding to the database search feature a means to tailor the min/max number of chapters of the results (for example, it'd be good to be able to search for a series with 1 to 20 chapters. Or, if one wants some longer series, but not too long, 60-100 chapters).
