I called it. Ao’s alive. Honestly, that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who’s already figured out how this author works. For those who don’t remember, Messiah made a cut on Ao’s back with a chainsaw in chapter 17:

Exactly, the same thing happened with me. Look, I always knew Ao couldn't be dead, because there's still the whole issue of Ao's past unresolved, and since it all seems like they didn't meet by chance... I don't doubt Ao's love for him, but I'm sure that past has to come back where they both know about it.

Now the question is... Why does he look like that? Is he really burned out? (I damn hope not.) Was it a ruse by Peter to kill Ao, because he really wants him alive? Or did Ao manage to escape and they had to stage a fake scene?

Thank god. We've already seen some pretty awful stuff happen to kids in this one, so I wasn't sure if they'd let these children we just met off the hook. But of COURSE this is the chapter they scheduled a break after! 😭
