How come the doctor is less suspicious when Nezumi said her boyfriend is in the hospital due to her? Like, this should have the opposite effect and convince her to actually call the police.

At this point it wouldn’t surprise me if the Yakuza has a couple of doctors and nurses in their payroll on must hospitals so they can admit people under fake names and backgrounds.

Maybe she thinks Nezumi “in laws” don’t like her and are revoking visitations privileges. In some places blood relatives has priority over spouses and can restrict them to visit them or take medical decisions in cases were the patient is unable.
