It's too bad they cut out a few bits where the WN had done well; where the manga 'shows' that Zenon's speech is clearly abnormal, the WN had Yuugo wondering if he was witnessing hypnosis.
Melt dismantles his contradictions more directly as well (he's been kicked out but is somehow also using the power of his family, his artifact is trash therefore he's used its greater power to cheat, etc) before she gets some action on Yuugo.

Even the kiss isn't out of nowhere, since like here 'MC' escalates and offends her one more time by demanding a duel and claiming Yuugo has to 'give her back' once defeated... but her previous autopsy of his arguments makes that demand more desperate and her response more of a "I can be with whoever I want, a-hole" move.
She was rather badass.

If you guys wanna be technical the protagonist unintentionally BSS'D the hero character. It's a relatively new slang term in japan i think, it translates to "but I saw/loved first". It's a subgenre where the character's crush was taken away by someone else who got their affections first (A big takeaway from this term is that the character who got bssd never dated the person they were pining for nor did the character they liked knew of their affection.) It's better than broadly throwing the word NTR everywhere.
