Honestly, if you look at the modern prices of different metals by weight, silver is about 100 times more valuable than copper, and gold is about 100 times more valuable than silver. On the other hand, platinum is less than half as valuable as gold. It's annoying when platinum is presented as this extremely valuable metal just because it seems more exotic than gold. I wish more medieval fantasy settings would replace platinum with some fictional metal like mithril or hihi'irokane or orichalcum instead, preferably something with a distinct color that can't be mistaken for copper, silver, or gold.
