No matter the reason, it is still called revenge. Well, imo, if the enemy doing something outrageous, it doesn't mean you have the very right to do the same. For cliche reason it's called 'You just become the very enemy you fight. You become like them.'
And as far as i remember Walm squad didn't do any of that, at least not on screen. Some battalion members sure did it, but does it justify the enemy to treat the whole battalion as the same?

I'm baffled you can defend murdering invaders with such sophistry. His group is crossing the borders into not just one but multiple different kingdoms. Starving their enemies to death, murdering the remaining troops (as explicitly mentioned in one of the earlier chapters). It's also mentioned they served as the "security enforcing" troops, which is an excuse to pillage and rape the population. The latter was done explicitly and the former was implied it would happen again when they said an earlier territory was ravaged by war despite formerly being a very fertile land

In my rather stupid defend, i am not defending the invading troop, i am defending Walm group specifically and his right for taking revenge for his 'appear-innocent' friends. A great tool to invoke reader emotions.
In real life, sure i am not gonna defend invading troop and their war crimes, but we discuss war manga here so i just apply war manga logic. All the points i presented are often appear in war manga and isekai war manga, you know Japan and their war sophistry, but the real thing they did is total menace.

tbh not really. She hasnt really contributed much to the war effort. The 3 heroes that done his team in are from a different nation that just wants to reap the benefits on a foreign warfront. She's basically only a figurehead for a fallen nation at this point. Out of all the enemy she's the least to blame for what happened to his crew.

Did you straight up not read most of the manga? The rape was explicitly forbidden and heavily punished, and how is it Walms fault for the actions of complete strangers?
Nobody even says Walm is a morally righteous hero or smth. If you can't read stories that aren't just black and white, then this is especially not something for you.

Just to set things straight on the war/invasion situation.
The Liberitoa Trade Federation invaded first followed by the Kanoa Kingdom. Because they as the Empire‘s neighbors perceived them as a threat, with good reason cause the Empire was planning to invade Kanoa.
Following the invasion the Empire won victories after victories against Kanoa. For fear of further advance the allies of Kanoa Kingdom the Ferrius Kingdom and the Myard Dukedom betrayed the Kanoa. To halt the Empire they employed scorched earth tactics on half of Kanoa and abandoned the former border region to the Empire, which gave them some time to prepare another defense line and troops.
Meanwhile the war against the Liberitoa Trade Federation continues on till the stalemate. ( chapter 1)

The being invaded part is being mentioned at chapter 3. More details in the novel.
Point is; at this point invader and invaded means little to the moral question, if there is any moral high ground left, both sides in the war committed atrocities.
It’s all grey, we just root for Walm because we follow his side of the story, which to be for my taste is more raw and interesting than for example the newly introduced isekai teen group.
