I hope that the story will eventually reveal that the Imperial Japanese Army were not exactly the good guys, either, and that they too wanted to colonize the world. Or something to not portray them as a force of justice. Otherwise, I think I'm going to enjoy this manga a lot less.

If you ask a lot of young people in Japan today they don't even know what side they where on in WWII. They just know there was a war.

Dude can react to a tank firing... he must have the experience fighting the IJA, you know shells can pierce you, move out of the way instead of putting up the shield.

You forgot the gap in technology between WW2 and modern. It's huge. He may be able to withstood it back then, but not with newer and stronger equipment and ammo.

I did not say tanking the shell. By page 22, if he can react to it and has the time to put up the shield, he should just move out of the way. Or just react when the gun is aimed at him.
