....crossing over into the left hand sleeve. This appears to be a pattern brush error.

That one element is enough to throw off perspective, and freak out your brain.
I've made a slight edit, so you can see what just a smidge of cleaning can do.

You provide a very nice explanation. Nevertheless, there is one feature that is still missing, particularly the kimono with a loose hole at the wrist, which is not depicted well. As you stated, it all boils down to the variety of each individual perspective, the picture is very ambiguous 🤣

Unless he develops a 6th sense, which is were I think the story is going acutely; either that or he acutely dies.
