About LibreOffice Writer, I'm not sure what was in your clipboard. But if the image is in a link form (remote image), it could try to download and display it. Which means it will expose your IP (location) to the server hosting the image. On the other word, the writer just accidently let other 3rd party steals your sensitive data. Therefore it has to block itself from displaying the image unless you explicitly demand for it (mostly to prevent accidently behaviour - I think). You can find a similar behaviour in other app such as mail clients (prevent to display remote images) and pdf viewers (block js and remote images).
That's my assumption. Since I'm not liboffice dev, it could be right, it could be wrong. You can buy it or ask for other cyber security experts about this.
