Yeah, i realized when I read this, I was very focused about the themes about family and what it means to be family. So I realized I completely ignored the Yuri cause I was focused on those themes [for personal reasons too]. I also have a biased against Yuri lazily being added just for the sake of fanservice like some authors do. I realized I was in the wrong in thinking like this for this one shot.

A bit too fictional but good nonetheless.. i mean there's no way there's a family out there who would treat their own child like this without any valid reason.

I'm happy that your family treated you well and that this isn't part of your experience. 😊 This kind of treatment does happen, and it has nothing to do with reason. It has many complicated facets, but there's never a "valid reason" to ab*se or neglect a child.

This is a beautiful chosen family story, and the art style is fire. 🔥 I've read it like 17 times since last night when I found it. Alas, I wish the author had more works on MangaDex. Thanks for the translation, Chads!

I wish more yuri would make stories where characters bond off of deep shared experiences like this, I mean I love the yurislop as much as the next gal but this feels so much more meaningful and romantic(even tho it doesn't even has the romance tag nor any "romantic oriented scenes", other than, in my opinion, the moment where Hina expresses that her name with Naos sounds like a great family name, like she didn't include the rest of the Kyougokus, this sounds very much like a "want to build a family with me" type of scene) than your average 3 volume nothing burger story, EVEN THO THIS IS A ONESHOT.

Mmm, this was pretty good.

I didn't much appreciate the portrayal of Nomura's biological family though, I feel like we needed to see motivations - even immensely stupid ones - for their behaviour.

Like we can reason that her brother is narcissistic and belittled her as a child due to that, then turned physically abusive later due to jealousy over her academic performance being superior to his.

But we're not given enough info, particularly in regards to her parents, to draw any more substantial conclusions.

Though I get the story is from Nomura's perspective and it's certain she doesn't understand it, as-is, they kind of just look like moustache-twirling caricatures and that makes it feel much less real.
