They should buy a Yacht
Then have the server on the Yacht, putting it in international Waters outside the Jurisdiction of US law and be immune against DMCA's.
But, to defend against the US enacting the DMCA by freebooting, they also need the funds to amass a pirate fleet capable of taking on the US Freebooters
Plundering will also solve the financial needs of the site
The most practical solution in this thread.

I have enough other shit going on in my life today that I literally do not care if a scanlation site is spending their budget on yacht payments, femboy hookers, and blow, so long as the site's up and I get to spend time reading my Japanese comics in order to detach and decompress for a bit. I have learned how to pick my battles, and how MD spends its money - including the few bucks I send them each month in appreciation of their keeping the site operating - is not the battle I have picked. Again, if that's your kick, go right ahead.
I think this is a good argument but done poorly. I don't get why u need to be here and complaining about people spending their life when u could detach and decompress by reading ur Japanese comics.

For me, I'm interested in knowing why the enshittification of MD is happening. Maybe the big DMCA makes them go to a lawfirm and needs to pay a lot. Maybe MD is in the red each year and potentially closed down in the near future. We don't know and maybe seeing their financial may light the reason why.

TL;DR: I'm interested in this topic, u don't. It's fine. No need to belittle anyone. I'm hoping to be able to be prepared better. If MD is unsustainable, I want to backup all my follows and be ready to change ships. I still like MD best even with all the DMCA nuke (I just go to other aggregate site to read unavailable chapters).

The official publisher thing they added is giving crunchy roll vibes… I’m hoping 10 years later this won’t be the manga version of how shit crunchy has become

It is criticizing, because we shouldn't even need to ask, transparency should have been a thing before they even suggested accepting donations. This is how it works with every honest organisation, but you still hold it's fine if it does not here. In fact, real honest organisations spend a lot of time and effort providing meticulous documentation that accounts for every cent received and spent, no one here even rasied that as a requirement here, so please don't pretend it's somehow unreasonable.

Sure sounds like a "pragmatic" excuse - basically you're telling me I'm too young (without a clue about my actual age, of course) to have the right priorities. Those priorities still sound mighty strange though, like I pointed out in the last post. You don't seem interested in addressing that, but you could have at least spared us that little attempt at dissmisal through the (supposed) wisdom of the elderly. Now I feel too old for this crap too...

So in short, "don't talk about it, just go away". Yeah, that's pretty much your point to everyone from the beggining. That's a very ineffective way of "voting" or addressing any issue, really. What, is this also the fruit of 25 years in the workforce? Damn, good thing we're not in the same industry.
Let's be honest, I don't think a website hosting illegal translations of manga/porn will care about the community so much that they'll employ an accountant to make the same ppt meta is doing for their shareholders during the end of the FY.

Like what? From the readers' point of view of course, since I can certainly think of a lot of good reasons from a for-profit company's side.
Hmm, for masking where the money goes. :dogkek:
It then cannot be easily traced or claimed by feds.
Maybe :pepehmm:

When doing a donation to Mozilla, I have to enter all my information: name, address, telephone number and still pay my donation :oooo:

KYD (know your donators) wouldn't be "ideal" for Mangadex

The formula is simple, take every dollar gained, subtract the website's cost and the rest is divided between the team members. What the fuck do you want to find you ?

I just hope people arguing about mangadex's ads (beside the decision to cover more than half the screen for mobile users) do the same for google, spotify, meta, reddit or 98% of the modern internet and don't use any of these website. But I know the answer.

Yeah, that's why I pointed out that no one's expecting that level of scrutiny. Maybe they should though, since again: we're talking about a for-profit company that certainly already does so, just not for us. My point is, this is not an unreasonable ask, when soliciting someone for money.

You know, if their money trail is so hot that the feds would be interested, then getting involved (by donating) is asking for sooo much trouble, it only strengthens the case for full disclosure OR an immediate stop to even accepting them. As a simple weeb, I'd sure be pissed if sending a few bucks their way would get me that kind of attention, especially unknowingly.

Except MangaDex does not collect donations, because they're are not a non-profit. You are buying a service and getting specific benefits listed on https://mangadex.org/support-us. You won't be liable for what the website operators do with the money just like you are not liable for what YouTube does with its revenue.
