Chapter 62 - Retribution
The chapter opens with Asuka waiting outside the prison where Mitsuru is being held, a suitcase by her side. Inside, Mitsuru meets his mother through a glass partition, with a jailer seated at a table beside him. His mother looks terrible.
Mitsuru: “Well... I’m sorry.”
Mom: "Mitsuru, I’m going to change my last name because I’m getting a divorce."
Mitsuru: "Oh... I see... Playing the father card... But when things get tough, the bastard just runs away. That shows that, after all, someone like him couldn’t be trusted."
Mom: "... Look who’s talking—"
Mitsuru: "Oh, right! And Asuka? What happened with Asuka’s injury?"
Mom: "Your father... that person... says he’s going to demand compensation."
Mitsuru: "HUH? W-... WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!? W-... WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE WANTS TO CHARGE SOMETHING? HE SHOULD BE THE ONE PAYING, AS A GUARDIAN! JUST BECAUSE YOU GOT DIVORCED DOESN’T MEAN HE HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY IN THIS!"
Mom: "They say that, since you’re already an adult, the parents aren’t obligated to pay any compensation... That’s what the lawyer said."
Mitsuru stands up.
Mitsuru: "THEN WHY THE HELL IS HE DEMANDING COMPENSATION? I DON’T GET IT."
Jailer: "SIT DOWN!"
Mitsuru takes a seat.
Mitsuru: "TCH..."
Mom: "That girl you assaulted, Imai-san... she’s that man’s daughter."
Mitsuru: "...the daughter of that bastard of a father?"
Mom: "He had divorced, and custody was with his ex-wife... But when she passed away, he said he wanted to take her in. And I was the one who opposed it..."
Mitsuru: "I-... I had no idea—"
Mom: "Whether you knew or not, it doesn’t change anything. Probably... I won’t be able to come see you anymore. There’s no place for me or Asuka here anymore. We’re leaving this place. I plan to ask some distant relatives for help."
