Now I'm starting to feel like there's an unreliable narrator at play, because these events and the reactions to them are way too disastrous and hyperbolic to be real. Delusional MCs with a warped POV and overblown ego are typical in these kinds of stories. I mean, he's a writer so making stuff up is what he does.
Poor use of 'show, don't tell'. He's supposed to be a pariah but he's not even bullied, and people actually keep trying to get him to snap out of it. He sure does display this petty, narcissistic, gloomy, lone wolf attitude that's clearly destroying his life more than any old rumors.
Well, the story is these people wrecked his life and abandoned him for the longest time. What really doesn't make sense to me is why does he suddenly matter to them now? Why are they all now trying to somehow get his forgiveness after so many years? What, did a fortune teller tell them karma was going to have their assess or something lol 😅
I will admit it is pretty silly that all the people who ever wronged him are all trying to somehow reconcile with him, all at the same time. Let's be honest there should at least be one A who doesn't give a shit and doesn't even want to apologize for shit?
Also why is he going to the same school as these people? And why the heck has he never considered moving out a long time ago if they already happened to conveniently have a vacant home some place else in the same time, actually relatively close by the looks of it, there's some stuff here that's just so convenient I'm just questioning myself. Still like the story tho.
But out of everyone, she is the one that has no excuse for actions. She was already an adult. Not a kid or teen that are easily swayed by other's words and actions. Her mind isn't nearly as malleable as that of the other kids. They at least have some excuses. She has none. Zero. Nada.

Seriously, I think I have mentioned it in other mangas discussions, but my mother was very mentally abusive. It wasn't until I was around 20 when she realized the mental damage she had done and started trying to make up for it.

Do I still love her after all that? Yes. Do I hate her? Also yes.
But over the past 13 years she has made constant effort in being more understanding, listening and respecting boundaries, personal space and so on. To the point that the hate has lessened by a huge degree. Not gone mind you. I don't think it will ever be fully gone. But nowadays I can actually care for her and deal with her on daily basis without my heart going wild and my hands shaking from stress and fear. Merely a dull ache in my chest. Hugs from her still feel unpleasant though.

Well, my point being, I can see the other girls being able to make up for their actions in one way or another by genuinely showing their sincerity. It won't heal their relationships, but it should help his wounds to heal. But the mother? She is going to have a lifetime of work to make up for her deeds.
My issue is the other girls don't get off either, they are the cause of all the bad misunderstandings and rumors about MC, they want him to forgive them and yet they never even once, try to actually clear up those misunderstandings and you know, do the right thing. Yet they want him to somehow forgive them and go back to the way they were before they pushed him in the gutter figuratively speaking. They know they are the cause for how he is now, they want him to change, yet they cannot be bothered to actually do the right thing and do the bare minimum.
"Not their fault"
DAMN RIGHT IS IT THEIR FAULT! THEY SAT AROUND, SLANDERED YOUR NAME, AND LET YOUR NAME BE SLANDERED.
This might be the worst shit I've read since the convenience store manga with that girl who can MAGICALLY loses all of her memories as a trauma mechanism or smth... this shit is ass.
Aww shiet I remember that, the gr8ped school girl right? That was a frustrating read I won't lie. I am boy A I think it was. That manga was way more frustrating than this tbh.
You know he's broken so badly when even he doesn't assign blame to the three girls for breaking him, and he doesn't even feel any dislike, contempt or resentment for getting hurt so badly.

Finally he gets one more ally in his father. It's not much and way too late, but it's a start when Pomeko is all he has right now.

Wait, how did a confrontation with his stepmother turn into him getting told to leave the house? Although that would probably help him heal faster instead of living in that house filled with crying snakes. Living alone would indeed be a better option in his situation.
Lol that was my question when I initially read that. He didn't say he's moving out, all he said is if he's causing them trouble he'll move out, but his lil-sis is basically like, "oh you want to move out? Okay you can go... we even conveniently have a house somewhere nearby that isn't occupied you can go right now"🤣 Lol, I swear I read those couple pages a couple times because I was pretty confused that was very jarring. If they always happened to have this other house where he could stay, why has he never even once thought of moving to stay there in all these years?

I don't remember that part, but I wouldn't be surprised. It's "Konbini Goutou kara Tasuketa Jimi Tenin ga, Onaji Kurasu no Ubu de Kawaii Gyaru datta", if this rings any bells.

Oh, that's a different manga then. The one I was thinking of is Boku no namae wa "Shounen A". I'll have to check out that one you referring to some time.

I'm glad I didn't drop it and read for at least one more chapter.

This was hilarious. I was laughing throughout all of it in this kind of meta, bad writing way.

I'll put aside the massive over dramatization. When it got to the father not having a face and instantly being supportive of the MC, it was so funny. Like, there are few ways to make this more harem genre. The author couldn't have a deceased father because someone needs to give permission for the MC to publish his book, and the author already demonized the stepmother. The solution was to make the father as much of a non-character as possible.

And then the part where the MC just decided to move out in the span of like, two minutes. A major life decision to move out. Suggested by someone other than himself. He didn't even think about the details, and it just looked so shallow.

This was so funny. Laughing at the bad writing is the only way for me to get through this garbage.
My thoughts so far.

I don't think you properly read what's between the lines in previous chapters. And in this chapter, MC is even savagely blunt. MC DOES believe it's their fault. He's just saying what he thinks will end the conversation as quickly as possible, because as he has experienced in the past, trying to convince them of anything is fruitless and just hurts more. Notice that the only selfishness in his part here is literally begging to let his work get published, and if something goes wrong again, he will leave the house for good. Notice that in this confrontation, every question stepmom asks on why she wasn't consulted, the MC bluntly says the truth, that the same way she didn't believe in him, he didn't believe she would understand as well.
i think you re not reading fully yourself
He wasn't talking to childhood or middle school friends in this chapter, he is not telling a convenient statement to get through the confrontation, unlke as you said when he talks to his step mom
And the reason he doesn't see it as these three fault is that factually, what broke him isn't.

the elementary school friend accident rumor was the other kids running wild with their misunderstandings
His little sister barely talked of the accident to his step mom, she didn't even have any fact, the step mom is the one who overacted and continue to scold him without even listening
His middle school friend wasn't the one who accused him of assault, the other students in the library did. As a matter of fact she wasn't even sure of what happened herself

They are culpable because they failed to do anything to correct it afterwards for their own convenience, and that's their "crime" in this, but fundamentally the slander and bullying was from other people almost entirely, their fault is in being enablers.

His true issue is him being "broken" and they didn't contribute to it directly, tho they are not innocent

The elementary and middle school friend simply werent in close proximity to him until now
the step mom and sister have been implied to be trying for a while, just badly

There is nothing they can do to clear things up as of now which they have pointed out last chapter. the time for doing it was back then. The kids who were slandering him have long moved on or moved to other schools, what's left are vague rumors without substance that will continue with or without them. The only thing they can do in apology is help him now and possibly remove hindrances.
