There are various sites that have free trial chapters for the manga they have licensed, such as J-Novel Club, Kodansha, Lezhin, Crunchyroll, and many others. It'd be cool to allow these to be linked similar to the way MangaPlus is now, so people can easily see that the manga is officially available and also since the current links aren't immediately obvious or particularly visible.

These releases could be added through user input like how mangaupdates handles releases, or let power uploaders do them, or something. The report button should suffice.

Don't think this stuff would require additional development as the system is already in place for delayed group releases and MangaPlus.

But there's no one else doing free english simulpub as of now right? And there's already official english link which should suffice to inform availability of official release.

@MarvN

You do know one of the most requested reasons for Block group back a few months ago was to Block Mangaplus and stop them from spamming up the Newly updated page right?

https://mangadex.org/thread/158419/1

Discussions like this kept going on a LOONG time until block group finally became a thing.

Well, there's Crunchyroll. Although they aren't free but there's free trial and guest pass.

As I said, they aren't immediately obvious or particularly visible.

Oh... kay, I'm gonna leave this topic now. I took a good look at your 1st post after getting home. I don't think it's a good idea MarvN.

=====================================

Mangaplus style Group release updates: Probably should not happen, Mangaplus is already causing issues with the Latest Updated chapter section on the Home Page, and a big chunk of users just block these anyways. Adding more of these Mangaplus style updates could flood the Newly updated page and piss a lot of regular users off.

User submit Official Simulcast links: This is already how it works. In fact, it's often Power Uploaders that put those Official English links in. The reason why the Official links don't list Official Simulcast is because most of them have individual conditions and set dates of timed access that expire. It's easier to just list the Official English link and let users go free range chicken into them and jump through hoops.

Not Require Development to Systems : While true, that also means the current situation wouldn't change much. That's probably not what you want since your proposal says you want to change it so the Official chapter Simulcast links to get more attention.

I'm not talking about simulpubs that get published every week or whatever, just the free trials that come with some volume releases. What you're talking about is something I'd like to see in the future, though, with notifications for new volumes of all the stuff I'm reading getting officially published. I don't see any issue with these releases on the newly updated page, that sounds like more of a you problem. Follows list is a thing so you can have new updates but filtered to only manga you care about.

> User submit Official Simulcast links

Yes, I am one of those people editing random shit into manga pages and am well aware of that. I mean submitting new links to free trial pages when they come out. I don't think it's enough to have a little link there for official English, and a link to a free trial could help official releases of these manga get more exposure. The 'individual conditions and set dates of timed access that expire' shouldn't be an issue, because as I said, I'm just hoping to have this added for free trials, which should stay up indefinitely.

As for your third point, I'm not sure what to say, I think you misunderstood? Or I'm misunderstanding you. Again, I'm not pushing for more simulpub releases being tracked on MangaDex, just that I used MangaPlus as an example of a situation that is somewhat similar, but not the same.
