This is so ridiculously obtuse, if I was kurita and yamaoka I'd just quit. These rich old bastards think they grasp humility and lecture others on hospitality when theyre the most pig headed boorish and rude creatures on the planet. LOL sorry this manga just steams me up

that being said I do think Yamaoka made a mistake skipping learning the crab hotpot and not listening when he was offered advice. he should be more open to perspectives since he’s less experienced. and the lesson to learn with Hechikan wasn’t just “simplicity,” he went to get good (expensive!) water and presumably used good tea. trying to give your guest the best you CAN give them is different than hunting down pricey and showy ingredients.

but if they let Kaibara get away with presenting five hotpots I WILL be mad. unless he presents them in a special pot made with five wells in it for the different broths. then you could say it’s the other teams fault for not thinking of changing the technology or plating they have to work with…there’s dual-broth hotpots nowadays so it could be that? especially since he’s a potter.

Everyone's already ragging on Kaibara and the manga's constant shitting on the Ultimate Menu team, so I'm going to take this time and shit on President Dan instead. This asshole shouldn't even be a judge here! He has a vested interest in the Ultimate Menu losing so that he can get his date with Kurita! He is the most biased moderator I've ever seen, from his first appearance to now! Ugh, I cannot wait until he's out of the picture, because he is infuriating.

As someone with access to Oishinbo's untranslated volumes, Dan unfortunately will stick around as one of the mainstay judges until the manga hits hiatus.

But on the bright side, his "successes" (in approaching Kurita) aren't actually real successes — While it's true that he's Yamaoka's most dangerous competitor (in just anything, especially in romance) and successfully gets to take Kurita on dates at times, they actually don't result in getting Kurita to finally lean more and more to choosing him over Yamaoka or Kinjo.

In fact, the first chapter of Volume 32 (2 chapters from now) is one example where Yamaoka actually makes Kurita happier with Yamaoka even more than Dan.

And I think it's one of the most refreshing chapters I've read because it feels like a big, big W for Yamaoka (he doesn't realize it, of course, since he's being insensitive to this kinda thing).

What does Yamaoka do in that chapter, though? Let's just wait until it gets translated here.
