Yeah, I know. My own thing was like, "Why does it bother her that his hands aren't all fucked up from manual labor?"

Like, he didn't seem to mind that she was working in the tofu place. It wasn't, "Quit your job so we can marry", it was "She won't marry me as long as she works at this job, so maybe we can induce her to quit", which is its own brand of idiocy. I guess we'll see how Kariya handled this. There have been times where he's been remarkably progressive on some things and then extremely reactionary on others.

IMO, Kariya's usually at his most progressive when it comes to moments that include foreigners (e.g, that when the Tozai crew met an elderly Korean man during the Korean Cuisine Battle arc in Seoul, and was horribly shocked that the man was a former forced laborer in Japan during WW2, which led them to question why Japan didn't even try to teach its history properly).

Whereas for chapters that include the native Japanese characters and traditions, Kariya can write things that range from passable to "wtf did he really seriously write something like this for a manga chapter?".

Kinda find this funny because this only proves more that Dan's not a good and well-intentioned guy at all, despite all the good looks, riches, and the (somewhat sympathetic) background that he has.

Kurita doesn't even really seem to like him. Like, it's not even like the last rich guy she was kind of dating a few volumes back, I've forgotten his name. But she was entertaining the idea of him even though that guy was kind of a secret dick.

Not to give it away, but the Ultimate Menu still has wins left in the battles. This may or may not be one.
