One thing I frequently see and HATE in manga is this kind of "bipolarity". The girl is portrayed as clearly wanting a relationship, yet the protagonist responds with something like, “No, we’ll go at your pace.” The result is that the story frames him as considerate (I guess?), while in reality he is disregarding what his partner is explicitly expressing. It ends up undermining her agency rather than respecting it....its the girl on a pedestal that exists far away from the guy.
