Lilith did say she will explain it later but I guess she was on the rush for her self-introduction and say what will be her next plans for awhile. With how big egghead is, the vegapunks will need a place on the ground to go back so they can get the supplies they need to rebuild and also a place to act as a connection to outside world as sky islands tend to get very isolated like Skypiea.
