I won't deny that Garp looked cool as hell tanking an attack from Big Mom like that but it really says something (to me, at least) that the same page that has Garp intimidating pirates also has Dragon focused solely on getting Shanks off that island safely. I really do wonder if they talked at all after this before Dragon officially left the marines but this is already enough to see what differentiates them from each other

all that aside! Very sweet seeing Rayleigh rescue Shakky, it's nice not having any ambiguity that they live a nice life from this point onwards. And speaking of loves, it's also nice learning Rocks' wife's name too, Eris is a very fitting name for someone with ties to him lol, I hope he got to give her and Teach a proper goodbye before whatever's about to happen to him

Garp and Luffy for are similar person but on the opposing side of a coin. Luffy is no different than if Garp chose piracy as life. Garp is no different than if Luffy chose to join marines.

What set them apart are:

1 - Luffy's dream is to become the freest man in the world. Different from Garp who despite similar ended up chaining himself with World's Government order due to his wish to become marine, preventing him to truly rebel against them. Luffy has nothing to hold him back.

2 - Luffy is the protagonist of this manga, so we see more of his good deeds. Had Garp is the protagonist we would've seen more of of his heroic deeds protecting civilians and punching bad guys.

3 - Luffy as Nika successor means he will succeed.

Remember that Luffy has released bunch of criminals from Impel Down. Neither Luffy nor Garp are "flawless" good guys.
