some monsters will DEVOUR THEM ALIVE.
some monsters will TEAR THEM TO PIECES.
some monsters will STAB THEM TO DEATH.
some monsters will BURN THEM TO DEATH.
some monsters will STRIKE THEM WITH LIGHTNING.
some monsters will DISOLVE THEM WITH ACID.
its not THAT realistic tho as we saw in the fights and again
the worst parts are toned down and censored for the kids

also the number affected does not matter, its that it happened that way
even getting PKed is different then basically kidnapped, confined/tied up and all
the very moment such young kids can play it, it needs a big no no for such things

also AGAIN, it does not need a big gameplay mechanic restriction, but simply a GM going and say: hey the rest is up to you but this point is a no, tone it down/stop it, especially because it is a deep dive VRMMO
this is a big problem in such stories, just like griefing and all is easy allowed or even encouraged
many things would be highly illegal or borderline illegal at least in at least 80% of the world

therefore its again a thing of: story wise may be good or glossed over but otherwise its ultra bad and dumb

shala is a world different from oso, oso focuses on the slice-of-life aspect of the player while shala is more of the vr power fantasy, in oso player could even resurrect mob, recover the old civilization, which is already part of the player's reachable scope, as long as they lvl up their senses and have enough items, anyone could perform it, and no unique or special item/sense requires an unorthodox play style or something only some players could have in oso.
I mean, yes there's a difference between the world's and the games, as a fan of both series I know that very well, but that doesn't really matter to the point being made which is that sometimes the vr games we see in fiction wouldn't work so great in real life, which is why we shouldn't think too hard about how they'd be received in real life. Like they're great ideas for building an interesting narrative and plot and pass the bar for suspension of disbelief, but, when you think about it too deeply, you'll find that a lot of the concepts found in these games would have a number of issues in real life, such as having a boss monster that only a handful of players might get to experience that holds important story relevance for the game just simply because one good player took them out before you even had the chance, and Shangri La Frontier is far from the only fictional game this would be applicable too (I know of a good few Webtoons that use the idea, such as +99 Reinforced Stick.)

It's not a bad thing or a criticism I have or anything, just a fact that sometimes what's realistically good and what's good narratively are two VERY incompatible things, especially since that kind of defeats the point of fiction 🤔

That's the thing to remember with stories like these, something that works well narratively isn't always going to work well realistically. It'll pass the bar for the suspension of disbelief since some people are less prone to being negatively affected by such things than others and reasons such as that, but it would be heavily criticized in real life for fairly obvious reasons. It's not really an issue since it's a fictional world, just a fact that something being good narratively is not the same as it being good in reality. Like how the world of Pokemon is a rather happy and peaceful place, but probably wouldn't be so great if Pokemon were actually real in our world when you consider how easily their power could be exploited. Technically the reality of Pokemon is feasible, especially considering the wars they went through to get through in the lore, but it's hard to imagine when you consider our world 🤔

Jep, its thats why the whole start of this convo about the questionable Building og the golem and it attacking them is after the fact not surprising.
I would just like it if they wouldnt break the suspension that often. There are so many things that it borders on too much.
The case posted above, the dragon one, the situation with the PK people going out of control, Takumi risking Yun (which is in the end even when going well more of a loss in general and would be close to zenloss if they arent that lucky with plot armor) for no reason more than once etc.

I don't feel like most of those really even hits or crosses the border though... Oh well, this is one of those more subjective areas where it's relative to one's perspective 🤔
