hey I'm not crazy right "scums" isn't a word, is it? Why is it so prevalent in scans!!!!!
english is a language frankenstein and scum is one of those words that apparently does not have a plural version (I
think it is a slang coming from something related to cooking, so just like you don't have three sugars, but three cups of sugar, you don't have more than one scum), but not everyone is aware of that?
[EDIT] I checked. It is "a layer of dirt or froth on top of a liquid". Which is an uncountable noun, so only usable in singular form.
But it seems like most people have only used as an insult, where the insulted is
compared to scum (ore more like "a
pile of scum", but just scum for short most of the time), so they
think it means the insulted person and thus more then one
would make the word be pluralized.
