I don't know how casinos work... why was there a bill for him losing? If he kept winning, doesn't that mean he kept using his starting capital to get more money? If he walked in and spent $300 and immediately hit the jackpot, shouldn't he have a $300 bill?

Maybe the hero got a line of credit at the casino and used that to gamble on? It wouldn't surprise me if there's a high interest on the debt.
