Common Phase in fantasy setting where technology advances...without some Magical BS(Armor that can stop bullets, enchantments etc.) Cavalry becomes somewhat obsolete when Machine-gun/Gatling Gun Arrives.

Old General......Knew that Gustav was Reincarnator?

White Elfs has become arrogant enough to think they Own everything...War it is

Reading gives me conflicted feelings because no way a blip in a diplomatic letter like that is just cause to wage war.

But then I look at current real world situations and countries wage war for less offense. Crazy how it works.
My guy, if anything, getting this kind of letter that threatens border change is a MASSIVE reason to go to war in comparison to some of the shit that's happened in the past.

Other than Dineru, no one TRULY knows, but at minimum, multiple suspect there's more to him than simply being an orc with a big vision... they're also not willing to rock the boat in the scenario it somehow causes it to sink.

Bro tried so hard to find justification for this fantasy-world war while in our world some blokes just open fire, and invade out of nowhere (there are signs, but whatever) for no good reason. Reality is indeed stranger than fiction.
He alredy hade a cause to wage war. What he needed was somthing to keep other countrys from joining the Elf’s.

The Elven Queen gave him 2 letters in 2 diffrent language’s with the same mistakes.

Tbh, I really like this. Like the setup and that it feels grounded, what is happening in the story. And like the Romance. Not a main focus, but in my opinion, a little bit of romance makes a story better.

The only thing I find strange is the tech progression. Like, sure, a LOT of stuff can change in 120 years, but it seems the story is saying the MC is responsible for making the changes. Maybe not the ideas, but to implement them. and think that is great. Just what I don't understand is how the other countries have around the same tech level. Like implementing the stuff the MC did can be done with enough will and all but it is a coin you flip. It will work or your country will burn.

I think the best example in our world would be the modernisation of Japan. Like a lot of people died to modernize it. But that seems not to be the case here.

If your neighbor demands part of your house and to kiss his ass and thank him for taking part of your house, are you going to just do it?

Elfind demanded territory.

And @fjalar raises an important point: they'd been sending each message in 2 different languages, and the Elves made the same mistake/demand on both of them.

So not only did you neighbor ask for part of your house, they sent you the message in english and spanish so there can't be any argument about it being a mistranslation.

It depends on the setting and its nature. In the Warhammer wargame there are repeating guns, including gat ratling guns and cavalry keeps going strong. Mostly because heavy cavalry (knights) have better regular armor than that and the guns tend to be pretty inaccurate and/or explode on the gunners' faces. Often both with the rat-men's.

Not just in fantasy stuff either. Cavalry charges were successfully used during WW2. That's many decades after the introduction of Gatling guns.

Gustav: HOW DARE THEY. This is beyond the pale! THIS MEANS WAR!

Gustav, internally: Happy squealing noises.

Exactly how Otto von Bismarck reacted when Denmark claimed Schleswig Holstein as its territory. Denmark falsely thought the United Kingdom would support them against Prussian Austrian pressure, but it all panned out differently. HAUBITZEN!!!

I'd say this is a flimsy justification for war but the reasons given for war in real life are even flimsier if reasons are given at all.
