This series is one that's always kind of in the back of my mind, bc I'm super invested in seeing how things turn out between Ruby and Lloyd. Granted, part of that is me lowkey obsessing over the wasted potential (unlike most other "taken for granted by their employer" series, Ruby was both Lloyd's employer and his girlfriend, which could've opened up so many options for exploring their emotional connection when he left, but digress), but still.
Either way, I'm really glad you guys are continuing this.

Now if only someone would pick up "A Banished Sage's Progress to Discovering the World: The Story of What Happened When I Freed Myself from My Childhood Friend", which lives similarly rent-free in my head, lol.

Yeah the girlfriend part is a legitimately interesting piece to this puzzle. Because that would allude to that at some point Rudy's assertiveness was beneficial to both of them and that they were peers after leaving the orphanage for at least some time. Additionally, their feelings were mutual as Lloyd genuinely cared about her until recently.

It turns the story into a tragic backstory brought about through her own arrogance and makes their whole dynamic fit the idea of "don't work a business with your spouse" as it can create power struggles and or unusual circumstances.

This effectively calls into question, had Lloyd's skill been different and thus not inherently linked to Rudy's job more or less; would they have ended up a happy couple where she wore the pants in the relationship but she never reaches this level of arrogance since she'd never assume another lackey would take the level of abuse Lloyd had.

Honestly, what I would've liked to see would be stuff like Lloyd questioning if she ever actually cared about him in terms of romance, or if it had just been a matter of convenience for her and she'd only seen him as her lackey, or even a confrontation between them at some point where that concern gets voiced.
That, and I would've loved some scenes from her side that, in addition to the usual "dunking on the old employer who took the MC for granted" stuff, had moments of her feeling his absence as a partner. Things like doing some small, habitual action (outside of the context of work) with the expectation of another person following up (e.g. asking what's for dinner, passing an object, etc.) only for that follow-up to not happen.
Anything to make it actually feel like they were lovers who had lived together for years until Lloyd walked out. Because, as it stands, so far it really feels like it could've just been "childhood friends", "long-time business partners", or any of those kinds of platonic-yet-close relationships instead, and nothing would've been different about the story.

Edit: Honestly, one thing that stands out to me that I'm just remembering now is that, when he announced to her that he was leaving her, she just waved it off as though they'd gone through this before. She even gave him a shopping list (I think it was for dinner or something?) of stuff for him to pick up while he was out (which is kind of the type of thing I'm thinking of, except for the fact that it happened right at the beginning and then never really got addressed again).
I think it would have been great to have a moment at some point, after time had passed, where she starts wondering "what if he actually meant it this time?"

I lost the plot thread. Ruby somehow got separated from Ezekiel, who somehow turned into a loli (magic depletion?), and they somehow ended up in a village of pacifistic demons (wat?). And what exactly does Ruby want with Lloyd now? To tell him that he sucks, again? Girl, your evolution is: asshole → impostor → criminal → psycho who tried to destroy the city, basically a terrorist. But it seems like this is a redemption arc, so she'll say "sorry" and be forgiven. And where did that Sailor Moon hero go? What happened to the cliffhanger about some Spirit Dragon? So many questions. If the hero comes after her and tries to massacre the village (because demons bad), while Ruby protects them, I shall lol.

Hmm. I'm starting to think that instead of this being a story about childhood friends making up, this is a story about an evil character becoming good over time. I'm hoping... She looks too good to not be a love interest for the MC. Though the hero saint is WAY better. Since she's not as short and still flat. lol
