I actually found this ending pretty satisfying. They cleanly cut from each other, whilst also learning from their shared past experiences and have moved on.
Lloyd is happy where he is and stays in place,
Whilst Ruby is sailing off into the horizon for greater feats.

I'm not huge on how it shifted focus during the last few chapters though, from Lloyd learning about himself and watching Ruby slowly come to the realisation that she was a brat who desperately needed Lloyd; to Ruby becoming a demon, destroying a city, a magic dragon, the demon folk, and blah blah blah...

I read a good amount of the WN some time ago, and recall they handled it a good deal more gracefully, and Ruby wasn't nearly as obnoxious and did come to her realisations much earlier - and had planned to start fresh, now realising she can't have the same level of glory without Lloyd (starting as an alchemist from 0 again).
But the WN seemed to be going in a much different direction than the Manga towards the end.

So great intro and hook, sort of went of course in the middle, went waaay off course towards the end, but the very end was a fairly elegant landing, despite the awkward jump from the platform.

Worth a read, but it's not a great read.

I've seen series with over 70 chapters get axed.

Did it actually get axed, or did it end unsatisfyingly? So many people will call what they find to be an unsatisfying end to be an axed ending, when it's not even close. Even that aside, number of chapters doesn't correlate directly to length of run, because you need to look at the release period. That's why I specifically noted when it started and when it ended, and then compared to the original story on Syosetu for further confirmation.

Alright, this was a good ending! Ruby suffered a LOT because of her arrogance but she did manage to put her skills to use for the sake of others and now she gets to continue to repay her debt to society by doing more good elsewhere. Lloyd gets to live free of Ruby's grasp and got himself a cute and stacked girlfriend.

My worries were that the author would make Lloyd and Ruby make peace and end up together by the end, like I see many stories with somewhat similar premises do (strangled by the red string). It was good seeing that wasn't the case.

This was short but well done! 8/10!
