The word being used in the original japanese is "Kouryaku"(攻略), and assault is definitely the worst possible way to translate it. You may have seen the same term without realizing it, translated as "Capture".

In dating sims, eroge, visual novels with character routes, etc. you "capture" your favorite character by picking all the right choices or maxing out their affection stat then getting their ending.
Assault makes it come off as much more like rape than that. Mind you, this first chapter is pretty rapey but the word "assault" still fails to properly convey the meaning of the word.

He is still supposedly under the asumption its a game/ a dream, and thus to him it have no moral or long term consequences like if it was a game or a dream.
Yes, going for the rape option over the thief option is a bit of a dick move...pun intended.... but its not that strange if it had really been just a game.

Once he realizes it's not a dream and that his life is on the line the morality changes a bit, but not to the extent where rape is ok unless there are NO OTHER options.
ofc, rape is bad and should never be even considered unless it's a last resort and the end justifies the means.
But if someone is going to die as long as you dont rape somebody else, you well darn rape someone to prevent a death.
Rape can potentially scar someone for life, but death is in most chases a worse option.... most of the time, not always.

And again i don't advocate rape in real life, but in a fictional setting, you do you....

This manga isnent at all about Rape or him sexually assulting people.
In fact most ecchi scenes is somebody forcing themselfs on him or the ever so classic slip and grab the boobie.
Read like 5 chapters and you get a feel for what is really going on.

The MC is really stupid here... In the scout window, it said that the chance of assault can only be found after the neighbor fought with his husband and goes drinking. Stupid MC on the other hand, did not play with that information and randomly assaulted her... Even took it too far... TOO FAR!
