In urban societies, children are hindrance that add a ton of cost without providing much benefit until decades later, and may actually cost more than any future income they may bring in, particularly if they have children of their own.

Also, land / housing costs skyrocket and work hours get much worse, making it difficult to have time for relationships / children in addition to the lack of money. And Asia's even worse than the west in this regard. It would literally take something like socialism (particularly for parents) and eating the rich (again, because Japan already did it once) to fix this trend.

You have a point tho, most ppl (especially those in other 1st world countries) severely underestimate how hard it is to leave those type of jobs, and also the stigma of quitting said jobs and being unemployed as an adult. The consequences of having a culture that prioritizes collectivism over individualism.
