Welp, it was good while it lasted.

Always the same thing that happens. Literally every time. With every series.

-Old group doesn't upload for months.
-New group comes in and releases chapter(s).
-Old group comes out of the woodwork pretending they still care and release 1 to 3 chapters in quick successions.
-New group runs off after seeing the old group come back.
-Old group goes back on hiatus for a few months.
-Repeat.

One way or another, this always happen.
This is probably why lots of us wanted you to continue regardless and showed hate toward Kirei for doing this same old tired bs as expected. Even if it's "free", it's still doesn't sit right with us that they do this (we literally all knew they would do it, as seen in the comments of the chapter you uploaded)

I am fully expecting this series to not see that much more uploads in the future. Unfortunately.

Thank you for your work. Looking forward to seeing what project you pick up.
Thank you for your understanding.

honestly this would be nice if the said thing was a job,
this isn't, people literally do this because they like manga,
some people charge money but that's for you to support their efforts and if you care about their situation or not like kireicake's case where she has to take care of her chronically ill mother

yes and its on r/manga and i linked x or y reason because you could literally google kirei cake and it comes out the first search result

there's no time limit for when they uploads are supposed to be tho, this isn't a job, this is something people do at the side and may occasionally earn from through donos if anything
there are people who may do this full time sure and may be commissioned to scanlate(i know someone who does everything from cleaning, redrawing and translating and gets paid good money for it) sure but that's not indicative of every person in the space
and again there's really nothing in the tos for this to be considered a "fuck up on their part"
because its not, uploading your own translation of a manga is well within the tos of mangadex
ok i understand then. my perspective (at least for this problem in general since i know the two parties already smooth things out) in this kind of work regardless if its for being a hobby or not is the exclusivity of a group to work on a manga they've picked up. its already a norm that when someone or group work on a particular manga or comic your already hands off in it. that's why some speculates that theres something fishy already once the former scanlator suddenly put up a chapter when someone already released their version of it. that's why it became more of an indirect rivalry or competition (or its more a rude remark for some idk how to describe) until someone gave up and doesnt upload anymore (which is happening time and time again) rather than a healthy collab to each other. even if Mangadex doesnt state anything about how many english versions are uploaded. still, it persist within the groups. I didnt even see two groups or more at a time working on the same manga currently (not saying that it didnt happen at all) Overall, i do think communication is key for all but there's still that line that isnt clear at all.

Man I wish jailbird to continue this series but if you want to stop I uhhh understand... very much. Having more than one team translating the same manga shouldnt be a problematic stuff. Anyway dont let any of these popcorn worthy drama bothers you and just do whatever you like.

We all read these shits for free anyway and taking a hostage a series and gatekeeping a series that you sit your ass on for months is also dumb looking at you gds.

Quality and steady release schedule talks. If a scanlation team ever feel threatened by another group, then it's time to think for a bit why people decide to read free goodies from another scanlation team than your free goodies.

Don't worry, I'm not even that focus on donations, I'm only doing this as a hobby, I'm not forcing anyone to donate to me, I know I am still lacking in a lot of ways but I don't have enough resources to grow drastically. I don't even mind if this chapters or any of my scanlating mangas get snipped as long as my readers gets consistent updates. Though I feel a little hurt that my good intentions was being seen like that by some people I don't blame you for it. And with this I'll announce officially, I'll just going to step down on this project and just find other dropped projects to scanlate.

Have a wonderful rest of the day/night.

Edit: to preserve the organized stuff. Imma just try to get a back up and delete my uploads later.

Edit2: I won't delete them after all since that might put Kirei-san into a much tighter position. But rest assured I won't touch anything kirei or any other big scanlation team's left overs.
if you could do it until the latest raw that would be a good exit sign at least you stood your ground and bow then exit proudly that you did it for everyone (not excluding Kirei here honestly)

Look, I've been solo-scanning since 2015 and I did shit that I regretted. It doesn't mean I wouldn't learn, and I'd happily give feedback to newcomers as long as we're open to discussion. The problem I have with new solo scanners nowadays is that people are quick to get "hurt" by the slightest feedback, so I'd always have to ask first.

I'm sure you and KC already talked and exchanged the vital stuff. So, Imma just drop my 2c here as pointers for your future projects, should you choose to go down this path:
-Get some upscalers. Mag raw nowadays are terrible, and upscalers while aren't the best solution, will at least make them nicer to look on desktop.
-Title, Tile, Title... I mean we go through the entire chapter, doesn't hurt to translate this one single line that authors add to their work right?
-Get a few more fonts, I'm sure this is easy enough to find.
-Find a proofreader, it's never a good idea to yolo it. As I said, we're in 2024 now, even asking a rando on Discord would be better than nothing.

I don't want to be seen as a scambaiter for my good intentions because of the quality I could only provide. I'm still trying to improve but that guy is correct, my quality is shit so that's it. I just want those who donated to me to hit me up in the dm if they want a refund cuz I really am stepping down on this chapter. My head became pretty big from the compliments of others to the point that I forget that im still a third rate trash. So from now on, I won't take request to pick up stuffs of kirei-san or any other well known scanlation groups.

I would give you some advice on how to make this actually a good effort pick, rather than "oh this popular series is late, I could pull a ComicDom and make some quick bucks". Apologize if this offend you, but both releases badly need some QoL improvement, we live in 2024 now and this kind of efforts could easily be mistook for a scambaiting, if I was to be honest.
Funny how you talked about other people mobbing people out of scanlating, you’re doing a pretty good job by yourself.

But hey, self reflection is a hard social skill. So don’t worry about that. Apologies if that offends you.

So instead you insult first and then ask later? That makes zero sense.

No, it's fine. You did nothing wrong, it's my fault that this happened in the first place. I shouldn't have put my nose on a place where it doesn't belong. So from now on, I'll just translate for the people who could appreciate my effort and struggle to improve as I update chapter by chapter. You just woke me up from my dream, thank you for slapping me with reality.

Edit: this would be my last response to any of the threads in this series. Thank you for your advice.

You insulted first, then asked if you should give advice, then gave advice. All in different posts at later times.
How is that better, than them “getting hurt” when you give them advice first?

“Oh wow that looks like scambait dood”
Oh how delicate of you…

Just want to let you know, that you are way above comicdon (or whatever, don’t care)
That person literally said “if you don’t donate, I won’t release chapters”.

They also didn’t interact with the community like you. And didn’t take any advice or criticism. They also didn’t thank the specific donators with their messages either, which is a good idea to take from other online spaces.

This does not look like scambait, the only thing remotely close is the multiple before and after pages, but many of the big ones do that too, so while it being a little pet peeve of mine, it’s not that unusual.

Please take the advice to heart and improve, but don’t let it make you think you went as low as someone scamming money out of anyone.

Ngl, I really am asking myself if I really scammed the people who donated to me since the beginning when they told me I should make a ko-fi account. All i want is for the readers to get a decent uploads cuz I know the feeling of waiting on chapters while not knowing when I could read them again. I started scanlating to pick up some dropped or manga with slow updates that I liked. But yeah, I can't blame him because all the advice he gave really is what I'm lacking. With my limited resources such as only using an Android phone to scanlate, of course I can't really go toe to toe with them, but every update I'm thinking about my readers and their feedbacks. If they pointed out something wrong I'll definitely try to fix it when I am free. I just can't help but to feel bitter that I can't do anything more than I could. I guess I really am soft for shedding a tear because of this. But my effort to please my readers is no joke, I scanlate until I passed out 4 times just to give a daily update on one of the series I'm scanlating, I also scanlate even if I have 38⁰ fever, and feel guilty to those who donates to me when I publish late uploads, and for someone to call my work look like a scambait which I did my best to make, it just crushed me.

A year ago. Funnily, the series also ended a year ago, while the other translator has finished it somewhere else, they are still 7 chapters behind and hasn't uploaded any chapter ever since.
interesting which series was this? did they drop it?(probably did)

I've been around since this joke existed forever... But yeah, never had any issue continuing Kirei Cake's work, whether they drop it or not
right? it really don't think people should be worried about that anyway
That said, I think everyone's piling on the "3 months rules" because originally it was 6 (but of course, if OP get banned after asking KC if they could take over, that's another story
yeah i heard it was 6 months too :v even then its not really a rule, anyway feel free to take in titles dream inn has if anyone's interested, we will still upload when our scans are available lmao
I know solo scanners doing a better job than this. Least OP could do is to at least translate the chapter title, like come on, why going through the entire hassle only to leave out the thing that the author came up with every chapter?
probably because of their situation right now
Funny enough, everyone thinks snipers would get mobbed out of the platform, while in reality it's the opposite - people piling up on KC in hope they'd give up and let OP take over... because they need their douse of free scans fast, no matter the cost.
yeah they do that with gd too, weird thing to get mad about tbh, like this isn't really new with manga.

yeah definitely understand that, cause that would feel like work was wasted when you're almost done or whatever when you could've worked on something else, while i understand the sentiment, its honestly still better to have at least a competition when manga scans are being made than nothing, it makes the product better and people don't have to go for shitty scans, its like in fast food
in some of the cn translations there are 2 groups working on specific things

I don't think you should really worry that much. Especially when you're obviously not doing anything scummy. You're a bit overinvested in this thread imo tbh. People are gonna bitch here a bit and there's honestly no amount of words from either of you two scanlators that can stop it. Whether the bitching is justified or not, doesn't really matter.
Thanks for the upload and thanks for picking this up. Kirei uploading 12 hours after your is obviously a weird behavior.

And so another series is lost to squatting drama, see you folks in like 6 months when another team takes a gander and this happens again.

Bye and thanks for the scanlations 👋

EDIT: Oh yeah, since this'll be dead for quite a while can any LN readers spoil me on what's going to happen please?

May I please ask you to stop the animosity against them. I'm glad that you're getting emotional on my behalf but this is not the proper way to do this. they already contacted me and requesting for a Collab if possible but I refuse since I'm not good at working with people when it comes to my hobbies, in exchange I gave them a counter offer. If I see 2 chapters of raws getting stacked I'll upload, but if I dont see 2 stacked chapters I won't upload. This is not only for them but also for the sake of you readers, so please stop the animosity and just enjoy the higher quality scanlation they could provide.🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️
It's not just for your own sake. They have a history of pulling this exact same behavior. With this exact same series actually.
