Feels weird he's working so easily for the villain, but I'm guessing Justus is overly cautious and never puts himself at risk, even to the MC (or if he does, MC doesn't want to die for it). I also wonder about the weapons and his "life span" being impacted, since he's not exactly normal, and also may be playing Justus a bit. Who knows.

Is Justus under an impression Harold has been using the evil sword a lot? Perhaps Justus has no idea how strong Harold is and imagines Harold has pulled off all the difficult missions by relying on the sword eating the user's lifespan. While Harold has used the sword a little bit, he has always known what kind of sword it is. If he uses the sword so much that it ends up killing him, what was the point of avoiding all the death flags? He would die anyway. So, logically, he won't use the sword so much that it would make a significant difference in his life. Like if he normally would live 87 years (before dying of old age), then if he used the sword so much that he would only live 83 years, maybe it wouldn't seem to matter so much when he's now still a young adult.

Or perhaps Justus knew those two were eavesdropping and he purposefully had them hear those words, to see how they would react if they believe Harold is about to die. After all, it's not like Justus would trust Harold either. He's just using him. In fact, Justus is the last boss of the plot, so I doubt there's a single person in the world that he trusts.

Justus is an asshole

he actually send him a lot on a really difficult mission, basically trying to force him to use the sword to survive

My thoughts on him working for the villain is that he wants to change as little as possible from the original story so he can still predict the outcome and make sure the world doesn't end. The original Harold worked for Justus so I guess he feels he has to continue that role until he gets a chance to stop his plans.

He's working for Justus the same way a double agent is working for the apparent party. All the info he uncovers, he may send to the Sumeragi, if relevant. Later he can use that information to help Liner's party to defeat Justus and is plans. Not to mention the kingdom would hunt him down and execute him if he stopped working for Justus. After all, the grand conspiracy, false charges, and the fake trial were the reason why he was forced to become Justus's employee. The kingdom's goverment is corrupt. For the time being, it's difficult for Harold to do anything about it.

Thanks for the translation, I think we're up to date with this one which is nice.

I do wonder how long he'll stay underneath Justus, I don't easily see a way for him to separate. I guess as long as he gets some autonomy over time he can influence and check up on things elsewhere.
