I think the previous user put it in an awkward way. Sometimes you feel like another person is the ultimate love of your life, it stays like that for multiple years, at some point you get married but then some time later the flame just burns out. If you don't have kids by then and aren't financially dependent, splitting up might just be the more sensible choice. Definitely better than devolving into a relationship where you just fight all the time.
