Whelp, this chapter shows that MC's friend knew nothing of her working there OR that Saito was the senpai at work. It also shows that Saito really doesn't know MC's friend either.

Funny how once MC's friend realized who she was he was saying things that would put MC in a good light. Our friend is a good wingman, but Saito can wingman herself too while at work so MC is winning on all sides here.

Guys, Ichinose already knew it was her, he did it on purpose lol. With all the hints so far its pretty clear they studied together on middle school

Anyway about Clark Kent effect cmon guys, its basically the premisse of the series, it wont be solved until the end, if you guys really dislike it so much i reccomend to drop, but it would be a shame such a minor detail make yall do it just bc "its unrealistic". Irl maybe but the art portrays both Renas and both Minatos very well to make they look different enough, i would say they dont recognize their voices is way more ridiculous

This chapter says so much that im shocket it is an extra instead a regular chapter tbh

Every other romcom is mainly about MC being dense. So no idea why so much flak.

There's a clear difference between a character not interpreting behaviors as romantic interest (and mangaka often include prior trauma that rationalizes an MC's reluctance to do so) and not realizing that your new best friend that you spend a lot of time in close proximity to and your coworker that you spend of time in close proximity to are a hair tie and some glasses away from being the same person.

I'm not saying it should bother people (to each their own), but this gimmick is clearly putting more stress on someone's suspension of disbelief than someone not realizing that a woman they're cool with likes them.

All that said, thanks to the translator for your effort! If you feel burnt out, please don't burn yourself out more just because your schedule is going to free up a bit more. Decompress; we'll be here either way.

Were 18 chapters in and  now yall talking about the glasses thing?

It's been the premise of the manga since day one.
It has also barely come up.

Even though the manga is titled "Falling for Her Secret Side", her secret side "Hiragi" is just a third wheel in their relationship.

The author took the old "side character best friend who gives advice" and made that the girlfriend as well. While the usual side character best friend is portrayed as a womanizer who would be supposedly bad and giving such advice.

The story has some really great portrayal of the relationship, because the MC isn't a horny asshole, but an actual human being with secondary wants, needs, desires and interests. And the female MC also has an actual personality as well. The writing behind the art is really good (EXCEPT the marketing hook that the manga is based on).

I'd honestly love to read a 200 chapter manga from this author.

The "Clark Kent Effect" is seriously real.

Christopher Reeve was not recognized in the place he took his lunch break during filming unless he went in his Superman costume.
And of course there is that scene of his where we see Clark adjust his posture and way of speaking mid-line to show there IS a transformation between him and Superman besides uniform and glasses.
Henry Cavill was not recognized on the streets despite being wearing a Superman shirt, under a poster for Batman V Superman.

Hanging around may not fix it as easily as you all think either. The human brain is stubborn, and would "refuse to see" the obvious connection unless 8t was blatant.
Which is what makes proofreading your own work harder, you know the word you wished to use and thus may insist that what you read was that word instead of a mess. It can also affect reading by the way, many times your brain may make the connection before your eyes reach things and insist on it even if it is a wrong one...

Basically, her acting different enough may be enough to trick someone that knew both sides long enough. Even seeing her without glasses may just tell him they look alike, not that they are the same person.

People are against this clark Kent effect but if you actually see it irl you'll be surprised. I had a crush back then. Then I saw her without makeup. Holy shit, I couldn't tell it was her. It was then thatbI never trusted looks ever again.

Are you fucking serious? That's all it took for Kazuki to recognize Rena????

What kind Clark Kent bullshit is that??? Nah, Minato you're a cool MC and all...but holy shit you're slow, bro she's even using her actual first name and only changed her last name

She takes off her glasses and all of a sudden "Saitou is that you??"

I hate this trope

This Clark Kent/Superman shit just took me out of the story so much.
Bro, early into the chapter I literally said to myself "istg if Kazuki recognizes her just from this interaction, I'm gonna be VERY disappointed in Minato"

She takes off her fucking glasses and as soon as those words left his mouth, I threw my phone

Man, he's doing such a good job of pretending he isn't Mai.
