both of the characters are 20yo and still childish af. Like, i get it, some people had a gf later and it's perfectly fine, there's not a deadline for this. But fuck, it's not like not having a relationship forces you to not grow as a person.

We live in a weird time where being balless wimp is consider wholesome.
I dislike but understand when MMC's or FMC's don't progress but let's just say author doesn't create situations for the "mood" but when something happens they do it normally - i.e. you get the feeling they were ready just didn't have an appropriate time.
It's still bad but not as bad as seeing boys being completely balless during the peak time for hormonal spikes and rash decisions.

You should consider the timeline. He dated her for 1 year at the start of the manga, most usual MC's are in a school setting and story starts pre-dating period.
I think most women i knew would dump me after 1 or 2 months of inaction from my side.

So while i understand your point of view, if we were to consider the timeline and not the actual manga progression, it is pretty slow for a of age guy during his peak years. At this point i'm questioning if it's normal in Japan.
(Prior to that i learned that some women in Japan like it and want men(boys) to confess their feelings at least 2 times before they start to date them. This was mind-blowing information, they stated that this proves his dedication and stubbornness.)
