Uhh... what? Is this the correct chapter? This does not feel connected to the last chap at all.

It's almost as if this is the intended story, and the Hanabi rape reveal was added in between chaps almost like an after thought by the author, without any narrative continuity.

Also we got a bit of a time jump, a few weeks at least, so is likely that during all this time Hanabi has been prostituted by that other guy whenever we get back to her story it will be even more messed up.

Well, since the story is ruined FOR ME, since I consider what happened totally unnecessary and it kind of felt off with the tone of the story until that point, I decided to do some research to try to understand why the author decided to take this dark turn in the story.

Before continuing, let me emphasize again, the story is ruined FOR ME. If you liked what happened, think it’s fitting with the rest of the story, or think it was an interesting twist, good for you. It’s okay to disagree, so please don’t bother me.

Anyway, here’s the timeline of events that I came up with:
  • As many know, it all started with a WN, with the first chapter being published on 2020-02-25 and the last on 2021-07-17. I don’t know if the WN is exactly the same as the LN, but it’s basically the same content as the first volume of the LN and the first four volumes of the manga.
  • The author struck a deal with Shueisha for the publication of the story both as a manga and as an LN.
  • According to the timestamp on NicoNico, the first chapter of the manga was published before the first volume of the LN, perhaps to help with the publicity and sales of the LN. The first chapter of the manga was published on 2022-11-01.
  • The first volume of the LN was published on 2022-11-25.
  • The first volume of the manga was published on 2023-05-19.
  • The second volume of the LN was published on 2023-12-22.
  • The second volume of the manga was published on 2024-01-18.
  • The third volume of the manga was published on 2024-06-19.
  • The fourth volume of the manga was published on 2025-09-19.
As you can see, there’s a one-year gap between the publication of volumes 1 and 2 of the LN, but almost two years have passed since then and there’s still no volume 3. Since LN release intervals are usually somewhat consistent, this raises some questions. The first is, does the story end in volume 2? The second is, if it doesn’t, has the LN been canceled? And the third is, if it was canceled, did that happen before or after the release of volume 2? Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to any of these questions and can only speculate. I tried asking two people who read the second volume whether the story ends there, but neither of them replied. If anyone knows, please let us know.

I have a few scenarios in my head.
  1. The LN wasn’t canceled, and the story actually ends in volume 2. This feels strange to me because of the dark turn the author took. I mean, I know this is the same author as Fukushuu o Koinegau Saikyou Yuusha wa, but even so, it still feels odd.
  2. Sales of volume 1 of the LN were poor, and the author was told to wrap it up in volume 2, so he unleashed his demons there. Considering the dark turn, this seems more plausible to me than scenario 1.
  3. Sales of volume 1 of the LN were poor, so the author tried to spice things up with the dark turn in volume 2, but it didn’t work and the LN was canceled afterward. I also find this more plausible than scenario 1.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how to check LN sales data, but we can take a look at the sales of the manga’s physical copies using Shoseki Ranking. And since we’re at it, why not?
  • Volume 1: approximately 1,838 copies sold in the first week and about 2,606 copies in the second week, for a total of roughly 4,444 copies. No data after that.
  • Volume 2: approximately 2,600 copies sold in the first week. No data after that.
  • Volume 3: approximately 2,313 copies sold in the first week. No data after that.
  • Volume 4: did not enter the weekly ranking, so there’s no data to estimate sales. During its release week, it needed to sell at least 1,250 copies to rank.
Here’s a chart:

hM8LJHa.png

Note: I listed Volume 4 with 1,250 copies sold for illustration purposes only. The actual number is lower.

Considering the genre of the manga, these numbers are pretty bad. So I find it quite surprising that the author decided to stick with the same dark turn he made in the LN. He had plenty of time to reconsider the story but chose to keep it as it was in the LN. If I were a betting man, I’d say his contract with Shueisha guarantees that all the LN content will be adapted into the manga, because physical volume sales are only getting worse. Maybe digital sales are keeping it afloat, I don’t know.

Welp, that’s all I have to say about it. Once again, if anyone knows whether the story actually ends in volume 2 of the LN, please let us know.

Thanks for the chapter!
Since the Toilet Buffet is probably manga only, probably...

: tinfoil hat mode ON :

The mangaka seen some bad comments on his other adaptation of "Asahina Wakaba & Her Chubby-Chubby Boyfriend", where a bully has a striking resemblance to Hanabitch, who got away from months if not years of bullying with just a face full of cream puff and in dark humor Hanabitch gets a share of same treatment, just with a little different kind of cream puff.

So I decided to check the chapters comments and MTL some of them to get the reception to the rape chapters, 45 isn't there so:

46.1
The story is based around characters with extreme morals, so I can't really empathize with them or feel any realism.
It's getting hard to read. I can't take it anymore.
Only Hanabi is punished, and the crimes of the other villains are left unpunished
Seriously, there are too many criminals in this manga.
Hanabi in public toilets edition begins
Even if (s?)he's going to be punished, it's not him who should be punished.
I don't feel like sympathizing with her, so I don't need any episodes about how pathetic this disgusting woman is.
I don't want to see this. You've already been punished.

Extra juicy is:
The reason it ended with the second volume of the original work is because of the development from here...
So your speculation is seeming correct. The LN were nuked and likely sold like dogshit, according to anon anyway.

46.2

Even if it's retaliation, I don't like saying this...
Everything this manga does is too extreme
I didn't think it would be this disgusting
I don't think I need to view this work anymore. Thank you for your hard work.
I don't want this kind of development at all
Hmm? What do you mean? Are they being forced into prostitution?
I just wanted her to get what she deserved socially, not to become a prey to some damn men.
Final page comments seem to confirm this was a known dumpster fire

This is goodbye
This is a story that really shows the author's bad personality and lack of skill. This kind of thing should be in an adult magazine.
Where is this manga heading?
If this is how it goes, then goodbye👋
Lol, there are people who buy manga like this
I just feel sorry for them and can't bring myself to say "serves them right"
And loads more shitting on it, some liking but from what I've seen pretty much 70%+ negative reception. Also interesting is:
This part is an original episode, right? The original story ends with the school trip. Is there a continuation somewhere else?
The first three volumes of the original work are like this, so the comics will continue to be like this.
It's not in the original work, so it's up to the manga artist's taste
Assuming it might've been made worse, or maybe more was shown. That's how adaptation from LN or WN tends to work anyway, the whole plot point should've been thrown in the bin. It probably wasn't because it seems like, from the discussion at least, that Hanabi torture is a significant portion of the latter parts of the series? Or maybe just all the crazy bitches around MC in general.

47:
Where did the developments from the previous episode go?
Hanabi is filling up the park toilets right now.
If you look at the author's other works, you'll understand his style.
I'm worried about the previous episode and can't get into the story.
How dare they create so many characters that bring down the mood of the readers?
It's like the previous story never happened lol

This might get dropped into the abyss because it sounds like the author just wants to cause distress and pain to his creations.

Regarding the first comment: The WN ends with the school trip, so I think that’s what they’re referring to. Maybe they just don’t know that an LN version exists. Volume 1 of the LN also ends with the school trip and serves as the source for the first four manga volumes.

Regarding the second comment: There aren’t three LN volumes, only two. It’s probably just a typo. Also, that statement seems off, since the dark turn happens only in volume 2 of the LN. As I mentioned, the first four manga volumes correspond to volume 1 of the LN, which doesn’t include anything that dark.

Regarding the third comment: Same as the first. They probably don’t realize there are two LN volumes and assume the source ends with the WN.

"OMG you are so good looking, hard working, and considerate, a total catch, you are definitively single right?"

Bitch please... also sexual harassment

Oh we are just going to ignore the forced toilet prostitution arc and move back to the cafe drama? Hum Yukishiro is working extra hours to help Hanabi by saving money, so she somehow is now smart enough to notice that Hanabi was doing toilet prostitution?

Aaaand there it is, Nanao the problematic girl is blackmailing the cafe owner, sure, let me guess the Cafe Owner hires prostitutes and that's the dirt the other girl has on him, he is going to end up eventually meeting Hanabi on the toilet, but Yukishiro will intervene, then Nanao will twist it and accuse Yukishiro of being the one selling herself in order to ruin her relationship with the MC

Calling a dude handsome and asking if he's got a girlfriend isn't sexual harassment though? If they kept pressing AFTER he declined them, sure, but what those girls did was just normal flirting/hitting on someone. Bruh

Flirting with someone while they are working is sexual harassment they are literally cat catcalling him, in fact even if he was off work it would have been inapropiate

In my opinion, the author kind of screwed up. This messy shift from the fucked up rape reveal to this chap accidentally harms Yukishiro's established character.

A nice and caring girl like her would NOT stay quiet about finding out about the fucked up state Hanabi was in, this makes her look like she doesn't care at all, which is not how her character has been written as throughout the whole story.
there's also the possibility that this isn't chronologically taking place after the events of the previous chapter.
I have nothing to back that up, so if it turns out that's not the case, then I guess Yukishiro is just wet paper without Ichinose around and can't be expected to act with agency to developing situations around her.

And given how the author's written all of the women in this story up to this point, even the "not bad" FMC being flat and ineffectual without the Protagonist's Narrative Handholding strikes me as ....well, consistent.

I mean, flip the genders and have it be a bunch of dudes saying "wow you're hot miss do you have a boyfriend" to Yukishino, which is pretty much exactly what Catcalling is, and is a known form of (I guess "low-grade" if you really want to split hairs) sexual harassment.
Also it being women hitting on a dude is still Catcalling, but people tend to recognize it more when it's men doing it to a woman, so.

But, sure.

Who the actual fuck can give a damn about this chapter given the two before it? It went from kind of wholesome healing manga with occasional drama to the "antagonist" who has already been punished for her misdeeds and is already remorseful getting blackmailed and forced into prostitution in fucking public bathroom stalls. You don't just get to go back to the heckin wholesomerino job with the cute gf after that. The stakes have already been hyper fucked. Even after the forced prostitution arc is resolved it'll be hard to take this manga any kind of seriously.

Author pulled a bunch of plots and now have to navigate it all at the same time, my bet is that after this interaction we go back to MC friend and the EX plot, and only God knows when we see the Hanabi plot again.
Idk how, but I hope they all join together so things progress faster
