Feels like the author is doing character assassination with Koiwai.

Just all of a sudden her character has become someone else entirely.

From a friendly girl to a jealousy fueled yandere-lite all in the snap of a finger.

Pacing is weird now.
Aren't most yanderes fairly normal until they fall in love? Rather, she's literally the quiet kid in class; I guess in Japan, they become yanderes instead of school shooters.

I hope the author doesn't eventually make the childhood friend realise she's in love

This wouldn't really happen if Hinaki isn't so possessive of Shunsuke, and also if Shunsuke isn't so dependent of Hinaki. Friendships have limits, it should be given that if your bud is having their time of their life finding the joys of romance, you, as his bro, should whole heartedly support them because you cannot give that kind of joy to him since you guys are only friends.

Am I crazy, or did the author swap the two girls personalities?

Since 3-4 chapters ago there was this shift, Tomoe stopped being so abrasive and selfish and suddenly started being supportive and kind. I thought that was weird but now Kowai seemingly has inherited those traits but at least I can chalk it up to first love making her jealous and impulsive. They do a good job showing her mindset.

But I have this sinking feeling that they will push Tomoe into a full love interest, which is why they are making her so "Dere" after all the "Tsun"

I understand wanting to keep your friends but it's logical that love is more important than friendship in most cases.
I mean friends are people you have a fun time with but love is someone you will live with for the rest of your life (or at least it's the goal).
Putting both on the same level would doom the love side or at least it would be an underwelming one (if you represent it with time spent, spending the same amount of time with your friend and your lover would be weird in my opinion).
I'm not saying always prioritize love, it's still important to spend time with friends but the former should be the first choice more often than not.
Sorry if it seems like stating the obvious it's just the manga is being weird about it, though i guess that's what the story is about.
Eh love comes and go. The kind of friendship these two have is a lot more valuable than any teenage love. This love is just blooming and has neither history nor any commitment.

Close friends aren't only there to have fun with.

Hinaki wasn't possessive. She let him have his love in the end. She was only afraid of her best friend changing and losing him. Love was this strange thing that turned the people around her weird, but he proved that he's still the same despite it.

Thanks for the chapter!
Page 8 made me like this series now. After almost 40 chapters, this story's substance finally has more shape.
Koiwai's troubled face as she realizes she is in love really is a turning point.

Sometimes the comment section on here is more entertaining than the manga.

"Shinsuke is spineless" - The chapter literally ends with him making up his mind and asking to go with Kiyoka.
"Kiyoka is 180ing into a yandere" - The chapter literally ends with her conceding and offering to go all together.

I think it's easy for readers to forget we're dealing with highschoolers here on their first love. This chapter, as messy as it seemed, was probably the most realistic chapter of all 40 so far because this sort of impulsive over-excitement is EXACTLY how teenagers act on their first love. I was reading this with glee reminiscing about my own middleschool romance stumbles. Of course Kiyoka would dramatically over-compensate the moment she decides to try and be selfish and overdoes it. Of course Shinsuke is confused as all fuck about Kiyoka finally deciding to take the plunge and is now having massive issues adjusting the priorities.

At the end of the day, wasn't this PRECISELY the premise of the entire manga outlined in the opening chapters? That it's about this dynamic of friends and girlfriends and how teenagers stumble during their first relationships? I see nothing yandere nor spineless about either of them, I just see two normal inexperienced teenagers.
