I don't think that was all a lie from Ruby. Looked more like she purposfully remind herself of her trauma and used these emotions.
I do think she has talent but she's not quite up at Akane's or Frill's level.
I said that already but I think Akane is the best choice here. To be so much Ai, even her children get remind of her mother is no small feat.

Ruby used what is called emotional recall acting, even if its used even today is not without problems: There the danger of going too deep and rekindle old thraumas or mental issues, so abusing it can be a very serious issue because the feelings you are enacting are very real and not feigned.

No director would ever enforce using that acting for the actor's mental health and today is a personal decision to use it or not but not without consecuences even if the acting becomes extremely realistic (because for the actor it IS real during those moments)

The lie was when she said she didn't think those things I think

Akane already had most of the plot figured out, but after Ruby had this outburst, she literally has all the pieces now…wouldn’t even shock me if she examines the timeline of the Hoshinos and figures out the whole reincarnation thing.

But yeah it’s pretty clear she’s just going to massacre them with her Sharingan powers.

Edit: now that the anime came out and blew up the weeb circles, let’s expect a large influx of new readers coming soon.
(Also I’m very glad they are putting so much effort in the important scenes)

Indeed, Yonagi acting was based on emotional recall and when done you can pull terrifying acting( Like when Yonagi acted as a vengeful woman and public were TERRIFIED to even look back at her when she appeared from behind them just by hearing her voice) because in a sense its not acting but reenacting something that DID happen to the actors themselves but drag too deep and they can get swallowed by their own memories

Despite already knowing the plot, the first episode of the anime made me cry, especially with the music during that scene.
The song for the anime is also a banger.

"I'm just guessing here, but I think.. this audition will determine who plays Ai Hoshino."
this line is really odd for Me, why are they (aside Frill) act surprised.? Then again, I know nothing on how movie audition in Japan works..
