It's way harder than you think. Author has to juggle between the current plotline, hints and unresolved plotlines (and whether they have to solve it or leave as mystery), readers' expectancy, and to top it off the planned-but-aborted/changed beyond recognizition plotlines they've made. Then they need to properly tie things up within the certain timespan/pages while ensuring that the pacing remain consistent and readable.

It's like trying to draw a line while making specific amount of midpoint stops, and there must be roughly the same distance between each stops; now do that without using any measuring tool. See how accurate your line is.

I said last year that Aqua will die at the end, and folks didn't believe me lol. (Of course, I acknowledge that at this point we still can't be 100% sure whether he's died yet.) When I first saw the premise of this story, I expected and wanted Aka to deliver a proper revenge tragedy, a modern Hamlet.

However, reading the story till this point, I have to say I can't help but feel the development towards the ending rather abrupt and illogical. They've already been through so much and talked so much, and there are endless ways to try to resolve this situation. Is killing Kamika and dying together with him on top of it the only viable method to remove the threat to Ruby once and for all in the mind of (an ostensibly much more positive) Aqua? I found it rather unconvincing tbh.

Akasaka must have had the ending ready in his mind from the very beginning, as evidenced by the correspondence of that scene to the anime OP. Though IMHO he is still not exactly tier 0 in terms of his control of the pacing and overall arrangement of his storytelling.

With this Aqua might've succeeded in protecting Ruby's future but at the same time he has ruined it, if he really ends up dying that is. Surely Akane will save him this time
Then again, killing Aqua would be the easiest way out of a shipping dead-end stuck between incest and a huge mental age gap (not that I'd mind, but an editor might).
